Topic: New Lego themes 2013

With Ninjago and Lego Dino being discontinued, Lego
Introduces Legends of Chima and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I am annoyed they did not give Dino more of a chance and thought Ninjago
was pretty solid.
I have seen the pictures for TMNT and Chima and can't say
I am overly excited about them.
What are the thoughts and concerns from the rest of BIM?

Re: New Lego themes 2013

There's also a new theme coming out called Galaxy Squad.  Not forgetting, of course, The Hobbit and upcoming Lone Ranger themes...

Anyway, from what I've seen, Chima looks hideously cheesy (even more than Ninjago, which is saying a lot), albeit with some interesting new bricks.  I'm not keen on the recent trend of the plethora of licensed themes LEGO has been making recently, so I'm not too fired up about Lone Ranger or TMNT (the Hobbit sets look better, but I doubt I'll be getting any).

Still, I'm liking the new DC Super Heroes sets (at last we're getting DKR minifigs, even if the set itself is badly in need of improvement).
And, for the first time in my life, I'm actually looking forward to the new City sets.  I've never liked City; I find it far too juniorized and focused on "easy build, instant play" for my taste. But we're getting a SWAT team (or the nearest LEGO equivalent) and finally some criminals who aren't clad in those annoying, stereotypical, excessively overused striped jail suits (even if the designers didn't ditch stripes entirely).  I hope to get the "Museum Robbery" set.

I am over the super hero sets. Wasn't aware of the other 2 themes you mentioned, will have to look into them.

Re: New Lego themes 2013

My little brother Ruben liked watching the LEGO Ninjago show (on the Cartoon Network) more than playing with the actual sets. Yesterday was the series finale, so I guess the show's done. During the commercials, a preview for a LEGO Chima series, premiered. I can't say I know a whole lot about the line of sets, but the show looks incredibly silly.

I'm not a fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so I don't care for the sets. I know a lot of ten-year-olds are gonna be gung ho about the sets, and there's gonna be quite a bit of hoo-hah. But, I'm not looking forward to it.

But, I am a little excited about the LEGO Hobbit sets coming out. Some of the sets, however, like the Attack of the Wargs set look a little meh, in my opinion. But, I really want the Unexpected Gathering set, the one with Bilbo's hill-house.

I really hope, once the Catching Fire movie arrives, they'll come out with LEGO Hunger Games sets. mini/smile

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: New Lego themes 2013

Saw the Galaxy Squad sets and I am impressed.
Definitely getting them.

Re: New Lego themes 2013

Hey.  I just looked at the 2013 retailer's catalog and I can't say that there's much at all that's interesting.  I saw the Chima on the coer and was, what the heck?  Aztec animals?  Chima is obiously an attempt to combine SST racers with Fabuland and Ninjago, or something (j/k).  MY wife likes it as I thought she would, but we're not buying.  TMNT struck me as an odd choice to do, but isn't too bad visually.  Again, won't be buying.  Even the CREATOR mecha looks weird with its SNOT body.  Galaxy Squad looks cool to me; I like the classic sci-fi look and even the stereotypical "bug" enemies.  My faorite new one is the Heartlake City pool from Lego Friends (I mentioned Lego friends in front of my brother yesterday and he thought it was a new theme based on the overrated TV series).  I like the addition of Kamino to the planet series.  But hopefully the spring will offer more innoatie stuff.  PS: I deducted from the FINAL BATTLE on the Ninjago boxes that the series was ending.  Reading this thread, I guessed right.

PPS: two more things: The Aquaman/Batman/Mr. Freeze is halarious: It's subbilled as AQUAMAN ON ICE
Here's a quote from the retailer's catalog:

"Mr. Freeze has frozen Aquaman in a block of ice and it's up to Batman to rescue him!"

That's because AQUAMAN SUCKS!  Reminds me of the Aquaman vs Batman brickfilms the Lego Group must be paying tribute to.

THe other thing is that none of the images are marked confidential, or any confidentiality disclaimers so I can put any or all in the Lego 2013 preiew video I plan to make.  You can check the 2012 preview ideo here:

Re: New Lego themes 2013

Sounds like the new Lone Ranger theme is based on the wild west. I hope it is!:D

Re: New Lego themes 2013

I am looking forward to the Lone Ranger theme. The flagship set appears to be an old west steam locomotive. As a LEGO Train fan, I am excited. mini/smile

Re: New Lego themes 2013

Meh, not Chima. The models look more fit for play value than build value. And its basically Fabuland mixed in with Narnia and Ninjago (sorta).
The city sets look good. Like Holding our own said, I haven't really liked the city theme for its easy builds and the stereotypical robbers. I guess everything looks better because of the Lego city game coming out.
Galaxy Squad seems to be my favorite theme of 2013. I can find so many uses for those pieces! But with how many themes there are with non-humans as villains, I think that Lego loves, no, adores butchering non-human organisms.
TNMT seems interesting, but I won't buy.
I like the HF and Superheroes sets as well. Will get some.
Yeah. 2013 is not that good of a year for Lego, but its main audience (kids) don't care. Sad that ninjago is ending. I didn't get that many sets because of their prices and its the expensive sets that have Japanese structures. mini/sad
EDIT: Didn't find lone ranger pics. Can someone post pics?

Re: New Lego themes 2013

@Troodon
I keep very up to date (well, checking them each at least 10 times a day with that awesome LEGO news app) the LEGO fan sites like fbtb, brothers-bricks,brickset,eurobricks, and I have yet too see any pics from the Lone Ranger theme.

  Bigger news though!

Quoted from Aanchir at brickset:

Just was looking around in Brickset's parts database for a few minutes earlier, and the minutes turned into hours, and long story short I have found enough unreleased parts to identify at least 16 unreleased minifigures that could very easily be a future minifigure series

And there's this on the front page:

The full lists, which I think originated from the team at The Daily Brick, are as follows:

Series 10 (71001, summer 2013)

Sea Captain
Sad Clown
Librarian
Grandpa
Bumblebee Girl
Roman Commander
Warrior Woman
Decorator
Tomahawk Warrior
Trendsetter
Baseball Fielder
Revolution Soldier
Motorcycle Mechanic
Medusa
Skydiver
Paintball Player
Series 11 (71002, autumn 2013)

Yeti
Evil Mech
Welder
Lady Robot
Jazz Musician
Constable
Holiday Elf
Bavarian Lady
Scarecrow
Mountain Climber
Grandma
Tiki Warrior
Gingerbread Man
Barbarian
Dinner Waitress
Scientist

People have also started making some digital versions, and checking out the pics could be enlightening.  Here are a few from ReZourceman's flickr stream:

Re: New Lego themes 2013

I think the Lone Ranger theme was is jest, guys.  By the by, quoting Troodon,

" Like Holding our own said, I haven't really liked the city theme for its easy builds and the stereotypical robbers. I guess everything looks better because of the Lego city game coming out."

I actually never had a problem with "easy build" sets.  As someone who grew up when Lego models were very simple, I have as much enjoyment of a basic build without many specialized pieces for the simplicity I had as I do the complex modular city sets that have a classic feel too and are a challenge (not really a challenge.  My wife and I are very casual when we build them.)

I have the fortune to be able to view Lego's retailer's catalogs on CD ROM when they are shipped.

Re: New Lego themes 2013

It's second-hand, but it is based off of official information.

Re: New Lego themes 2013

No matter if this is official or not, I'll be hoarding heaps of those Revolutionary Soldiers! I also just realised that the grandpa torso would make a fantastic Matt Smith costume... expect a somewhat mean Doctor Who parody coming your way next year mini/lol

Re: New Lego themes 2013

I honestly think that LEGO is selling out. They have have Star Wars forever, but recently, they have been branching out to more and more franchises rather than giving their own themes longer lives. Either that or I'm getting older.

Re: New Lego themes 2013

Well, the parts are official as well as the minifig names.  The names were on a stores site(which has been true I the past) and the parts were put in LEGO.coms parts catalog.  The minifigs put together is what's not official...
I didn't even think of that torso for the Doctor, but that would be so awesome!  I just tarted watching Doctor Who and Matt Smith is awesome, tht torso would be perfect!
I also love that revolutionary wig, it looks so cool!

The grandpa head would look great for a Commissioner Gordon minifig.

I completely agree.  LEGO needs more original themes that are better...
