Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

I defiantly think the picture itself could be tweaked to look a bit better, but personally I'm not sure I agree if it could be "better lit". That is, to be brighter, because I was thinking if anything it was too bright haha. (I am a darkness freak though, it's about time I make a film with the title right?). I do think though the lighting could be perhaps more interesting if that's what you meant. I did try to get the reflection off his hair along with the two different tones of light on either side of his face. But hey it's a work in progress.

The text came out terrible after I uploaded it. On the original file it's not nearly as hard to read, but I had not accounted for the compression.

Perhaps before the film comes out I'll take a higher quality photo and find a better looking font for the overall poster. Thank you all for the feedback so far! mini/bigsmile And it's wonderful to be back in the community.

ANP:  Yeah, I realize it's not the greatest.  For some reason I couldn't incorporate this really awesome logo text on GIMP I originally wanted to use.  My photo-editing expertise is not the greatest.

Olson:  Well, I wanted to make the picture look a bit dim and posterized, and I edited in the ray of light to highlight Eco-Man, to make him stand out and look heroic or something like that. mini/tongue  And yeah, I noticed the cut-off text.  I made the text box slightly too small, and didn't notice until it was too late. mini/frustrated

And you needed to tell the whole world that? mini/tongue

Anyway, Scypax, that's a cool poster.
Believe it or not, I agree that should the brightness be changed, it would be better to go down than up. But it's perfectly fine where it is. The only thing I'd change is getting the dust/dirt off the figure's neck.

@Scypax, it looks mysterious and pretty cool IMO.

The poster looks pretty good, but the text at the top looks too..."light". I don't know the correct word for it.

@Mickey: I believe the correct term would be opaque?

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

It just looks...erm, faded. That's it.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

This is my upcoming film which I am very fond of, tell me what you guy's think of it, I am currently doing
the script and it's going well, I like the story so far and there's alot more I want to add to it, this is some of the main
characters but the movie will feature alot more such as other gangs, mafia wars and so on.

The Movie's date is set as of October 15 but I may be able to get it done earlier It will be around 8-15 minutes long possibly shorter or longer, hard to
tell as of now as I am getting more storyline based on the script so I wish to extend the movie.

Cheers.

The picture looks a little blurry. Also, what did you use for the background?

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Its blurry because of the software i was using for it, Otherwise all my frames are HD of 1028x760 and the background is custom made, also besides the obvious can I have some positive feedback or criticize on it?

Its NC-17 to give it a more Godfather look, and what about Godfather that's r18 does that mean just cause your not 18 your not gonna watch it?
Its just another way of saying its going to be violent, or potential drug use, or swearing, besides that can you give some good feedback?

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Well, it's organized somewhat nicely. I dislike the white gradient at the top and the bottom. It's too drastic. Black probably would be better. Also, the blue coloring of the words "October 15" looks very out of place. I'd try a different font as well as a more neutral color. One of the biggest things though I would do to improve the look of the poster is to have the minifigures sharp and in focus, and then blur out the background to make it look smoother. The poster would look so much better if this were the case. Hope some of that helps. I'm not sure what software you are using but if you don't have access to photoshop, I would suggest downloading GIMP (which is a free photo editing software similiar to PS)

Edit: The white outlining to the heading and subheading font doesn't look very good IMO. Overall the poster's structure is quite nice and I like how the minifigures are arranged. Once you get those figures in focus you'll be doing fine. (p.s. Does it really need to have the rating at the bottom? What purpose does it serve? I think it takes away from the poster quite a bit, so I would suggest removing it. If you want the poster to have more of a "Godfather" feel, I would try to do that in ways other than the rating box.

I wouldn't talk down on people who don't watch R rated movies before you even know why. Besides, 1101ev said nothing about not watching it because of the "rating", you just assumed that. I personally do not enjoy watching movies which obscene language, sexual content, and grizzly violence.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

I agree with RP...
Godfather was R, but NC-17 films have extreme violence, gore, and sensual stuff.  mini/confused

Anyways, I hope you enjoy making it and that it is as you see fit. mini/wink

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Ooh, an NC-17 Lego flom, interesting.

Anyway, it just looks a bit weird to me how there are a bunch of serious flesh-colored guys and then just one happy yellow-colored guy. Is the guy in the middle supposed to stand out like that? Also, I echo Mickey's question, what did you use for the background? Whatever it is, it's pretty cool.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

@Repelling Spider, thank you for your comment, I agree with you that the radiant white would have been better black, though as I said with not only the software making the picture quality blurry it also is defaulted with white radiant that stay both up top and down bottom and also I always have my minifig's in focus,
it's just a real disappointment for the software not allowing this to happen, which really ruined the feel of poster. And I'm glad you like the way the minifg's are placed, in so many way's I agree with you that the rating was unnecessary, I also do apologize as I did not really mean to talk down on him,
also the white outlining again was defaulted to the standards of the software and if I had the choice I would not have used that either

''I personally do not enjoy watching movies which obscene language, sexual content, and grizzly violence.''
I can also assure you It will not have any of these, besides a bit of funny language that's meant to be offensive but only something a lego would take offensively, there will be no sexual contact and there will be a bit of violence such as some shooting scenes
but as you know that was a normal part of the Godfather trilogy But thank you for your comment I appreciate your wisdom and trust your judgement as I know your one of the great brickfilmers around here, and I have seen all your lego videos and enjoyed them very much.

@1011Ev Thank you for your comment, and I understand what you meant by the NC-17 infact I didn't know it was worse than R, but like I said to Repelling spider, it will not have exessive gore, sexual content, or swearing, There will be swearing but instead of the actual words it will more like you worthless plastic, things lego would take offensive.

And I am going to very much enjoy making my film so thats for comforting comment!

@LASF Hey yer I know people would think it's a bit weird as in why there are all these flesh elgo's then one yellow lego the reason for this is that yellow lego is part of another gang, and he is a major rival with Don Nedaloni and you will be expected to see him quite a bit in this movie, and seeing he is going to be a great impact on Don Nedaloni I put him in the poster, Also thanks for liking the background I am very fond of it to, it's quite funny actually it was made with wood, though it was orignally made made with cardboard and I used water paint to give it the nice shadey look that also gave it alot more texture then after I finished that I glued it to a carved wood piece, I played around with it, then I edited it with gimp to add the little white spots, as I though it would do a better job then just putting actual paint as I didn't actual have a brush the size I needed.
But yer thanks again for your comment.

Thanks everyone for the feedback It's much appreciated, and Repelling Spider, If you have time could you tell me how I could make that poster on gimp, as of course I'd prefer a HD shot of the characters and I still have the original copy that is HD, and I do have gimp, so if you have time I'd appreciate it.

Cheers guys.

Re: The Movie Poster Thread [Large Images]

Well I'd be glad give some tips, but so that I can know how I can help let me ask how much experience if any you have using GIMP or photoshop? Also, what software did you use to create that poster? There are plenty of tutorials for GIMP on YouTube that could help. I would suggest watching some basic tutorials to learn how to do the basics in GIMP before doing anything else. Familiarizing yourself with the software's ins and outs before hand will help a lot. (getting to know all of the tools and what they do for instance, as well as how working in layers effects things) I personally don't use GIMP, so if there is someone on these forums that does I'm sure they would be of greater help.
