That's still not official. Lucas may be mulling things over in that murky, money-clouded mind of his, but until an official announcement comes out, take reports regarding such a sequel with a grain of salt.

As for the Man of Steel trailer, I have to say I'm surprised. I was not at all expecting a quiet, thoughtful trailer with a muted color palette and a distinct lack of slow motion from Zach Snyder. I've been approaching this film from a point of cautious optimism, but after this trailer, my expectations are definitely rising. There hasn't been a film adaptation of Superman I've ever really cared for to date, so I hope that Man of Steel can reverse this trend.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

Brooding Clark Kent a fisherman?  Definitely feeling Nolan's influence here.  We'll probably follow Clark Kent as he tries to find his purpose in life before becoming the Man of Steel, just as Bruce Wayne left Gotham to be trained and find a means to fight crime in Batman Begins.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

Watching brooding Clark Kent on a crabbing boat is better than "Clark Kent spends 12 years off-screen in the Arctic with Space Dad." At least to me, that is.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

The trailer definitely gives me hope for the new film, if only for the fact that they didn't throw in a bunch of boring effects shots we've seen in every other incarnation of the series. When it was first announced that they were making this film, I was afraid adding "darkness" to Superman would be counterproductive to the ideals he represents. Since then, I've thought about it and come to the conclusion that he doesn't really have a reason to represent anything in the previous films. I'll be interested in this film if they focus enough on Superman's development as a human to explain why he cares about anything when he's so ridiculously overpowered.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

If they're going to play this straight and serious I'm going to have a hard time taking this seriously:

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

OK, that's one weird suit.

The coolness rating for this movie just went down a notch. (The awkward pose doesn't help things.)
No curl in his hair, no red boxers, and then some silver armor plate thingies?
Superman is the last guy on the planet that needs armor. Period.
And it doesn't even look like those thin plates would do anything anyway.

The villain's costume had better make up for it. mini/blankexpression

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

Given the design of the suit (especially seeing the suits they've shown for other Kryptonians), I'd imagine they'll write the suit in as some kind of traditional armor. Cavill has almost said as much in interviews. It's also worth noting that this isn't a still from the film, and it's obviously going to look a little differently in the finished product.

Here's a gallery of costumes from the film. Frankly I think Jor El's costume is pretty sweet, but it's understandable that a design like that wouldn't function for Superman himself. I have no qualms with a costume not sewn by Martha Kent. Nothing about the new suit is going to prevent me from getting into the film more than, say, bat ears kept me from enjoying TDK.

It still looks a bit silly to me though, armor or not, and even with the changes added. Which would be fine for me if they weren't going to play it straight and serious. At least I suspect that I'll feel that way about it, obviously I haven't seen the movie yet. I have less problems suspending my disbelief with the Batman suit because it makes more sense, Wayne wanting to become a symbol for all of Gotham (at least in the Nolan movies), and also because the darkness of it coincides with the tone and atmosphere of those films (as opposed to the Superman suit which looks more cheerful and less serious, even this new design).

I don't see what's wrong with it. It's not my favorite Pixar movie (The Incredibles), but this should be interesting. I mean, it's the same director, so we should be in the clear... *remembers Cars 2, shudders with fear*

I'm curious as to what it is you are so worried about. Is it because you dislike the first one and don't want to see the second? Is it because Andrew Stanton is directing? What?

Personally (and this is the first I have heard about it), I'm feeling kind of neutral about it. Them making a Finding Nemo 2 isn't really a problem per se. My main peeve about it, is more related to the fact that Pixar seems to be heading for a lot of sequels. I generally prefer original films.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

While Monsters University looks atrocious (well, maybe just mediocre) and I'm a bit leery about Pixar's headlong rush into sequel-land, I think Finding Nemo 2 has the potential for a cogent story. Noelle Stevenson single-handedly convinced me in the breadth of two tweets.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

Finding Nemo reminded me sooo much of Toy Story anyway, when I saw it. Will probably be great.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

It should be good, hopefully exploring new Pixar designed and based on real life oceans. But I swear if the plot is just twisted around like they did in Toy Story 2. Not that it was bad but it's just not original anymore.

I loved the first one, and Andrew Stanton did a great job with the first, it's just that I don't see how Pixar could pull off a sequel and it still be competent and entertaining. Plus, Nemo's already been found. mini/tongue

I personally think the other way around. I think that Monsters University has the pontential to be great, at the least mediocre. On the other hand, as I said earlier in this post, it will be hard in my mind to pull off another Finding Nemo.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

well, its understandable that they are making a finding nemo 2, they are making a taken 2, and they both( finding nemo, and taken) have pretty much the same story.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

I kinda want to see "Wreck-it Ralph" but i have a feeling the moral of the story will be "Remember kids, play non violent video games!" (Even though I'd take a Mario game over 90% of FPS games.) But with Mario, Street fighter and other cool video game franchise i might see it anyway.

The Ghost of Mrs. Day studios: Home of mediocre brickfilms.

Re: The Super Official BiM Upcoming Movie Updates and Discussion Thread

I have a feeling that the only really great part about that movie will be all the cameos. The rest of the movie looks pretty meh to me.

What I'm really excited for is the short film that will be showing before Wreck-It Ralph: Paperman.

A film based on the events of Walt Disney is set to be released in 2014, with Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. Don't know if I should be excited or confused. mini/twitch
