Re: The CGI Thread

Does anyone know any really good, helpful Blender tutorials for complete dummies like me? I learned how to use Blender at its most basic about a year ago, and I've not only forgotten how to do everything (since GCSEs meant I couldn't work on anything) but I've lost all the tutorials I printed out. Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is my main aim now that I'm on summer break.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to say that I'm looking for tutorials in putting MLCAD models into Blender too. Thanks in advance!

Re: The CGI Thread

Blender has incredibly helpful basics tutorials on their site, which should refresh your memory. As for importing MLCAD models into Blender, BiM user Lechnology has made a great topic about it, as well as other Blender things pertaining to brickfilming. Links to both in just a second.

EDIT:
Blender tutorials, both basics and some more advanced things, right here.

Re: The CGI Thread

Sooooo, I've been trying to find a decent tutorial on how to make a Minecraft rig in MAYA.

Most of the ones on YouTube are done by people who clearly have very little idea about what they are doing, however, there are a few good ones, but they are in french.

Would anyone happen to know of a good one?

Re: The CGI Thread

Why don't you just learn the basics of rigging in Maya? Not too many people are going to make a Minecraft rig tutorial, because if you know the basics of rigging in Maya, you'd be able to knock a simple one together in 15-30 minutes, EASY. Just look up some basic rigging tutorials for Maya and use what you learn to make a Minecraft rig.

Re: The CGI Thread

I used to have Maya on my computer. A friend had let me install their family version (which lets you install it on several computers). I didn't really know how to use it, but I was trying to learn. Then I took an arrow to the knee.

No, in all seriousness, I had to wipe my computer clean and start again. I'm about to have to do it again.

Re: The CGI Thread

'Family' version? Theres no such thing surely mini/bigsmile

Re: The CGI Thread

I'm pretty sure there is. Not like a PG-13, just a multiple computer version. Most software comes with the option, but it's much more expensive. I don't know if it's actually called a 'family' version though - might be under a different name.

"Home" Version?

Re: The CGI Thread

Maybe. I can't seem to find it on the website. They might not do it anymore.

If somebody would hurry up and make his tutorials, some more people may start to use Blender. mini/tongue
I've always been interested in working with Blender, I'm just too stupid to be able to figure it out on my own. I've watched some tutorials, and stuff, but they forget to tell me the hotkeys. So they're highlighting a bunch of stuff and stretching out the model, or switching views, or something, and I'm stuck trying to figure out how they did that. Then I miss what they were saying and by the time I find out what they said, they're half-way done with some complicated model, and I still have a cube. So......yeah, I need help. mini/lol

Re: The CGI Thread

You know, if you hit the spacebar and search for specific commands, the keyboard shortcut will show up. Also, if you go into the settings, you should be able to see all the commands and the keyboard shortcuts for them. I'm sure there are also tutorials for the user interface, and you should know that before you start getting into what you DO with the program.

Or you could just spend a few minutes punching keys and see what happens.

I'm putting it off until I can find a good (free) screen recorder, and until my power becomes reliable again.

As soon as those things occur, I will churn out a load of new videos. After effects, Blender, MAYA, Photoshop...

If you know of a good, free screen capture program, go and post it in the thread linked above.

Double post.

As I've mentioned before, I'm getting into MAYA, so here is a test render I did for Eric Fullerton's super-secret project.

This last one has 1,404,928 vertices. Yeah, I said it, over A MILLION vertices! mini/tongue Blender crashes whenever I try to do anything over 2 million.
