The Avengers
I quite liked it. I agree with previous posters in that it was a simple story, but it was written and told so well that I have a hard time holding that against it. And of course, the primary value in a movie like this is the ensemble cast and watching all the different characters interact with each other. Lastly, Mark Ruffalo stole the show.
I know a couple people who have seen The Avengers more than twice.
Is it seriously that good, or is it just an everyday, FX-packed, over-the-top blockbuster with virtually no plot, like the Transformers movies?
I think it was kind of the last one.
The Avengers is heaps better than Transformers because of its characters.The plot might be simple, but at least it's relatively coherent and structured. It's also a lot funnier. I didn't like it as much as most people did, but it's not really fair to compare it to Transformers, imo.
The Avengers
I actually saw this on second opening day (of the USA), I'm just now posting this though. 
I have to say that I really liked this movie, a lot in fact. Is it the best movie to grace this planet? No. But it is very good, and wayyy better than movies like the Transformers (Which admittedly, I haven't even seen the second and third. I just heard they went downhill from the first so I haven't bothered with them.) Like Pillow said, the characters are really the reason this movie is good, they are really fun to watch. A lot of people keep mentioning the lack of deep story. Yes, it doesn't have a super deep story, but I honestly don't think that harms what it set out to be, which is a great action packed super hero movie bringing together a bunch of (until now) solo heroes and seeing how they interact. True, I didn't go to the theater expecting an amazing and intricate plot, but like I said, I don't think that is what it billed itself as having (look at the trailers, they consist mostly of action 
). I did get the unexpected surprise of it being quite humorous in parts though.
My opinion in a nutshell. A great super hero action movie, with a plot that, while simple, at least holds up well. It has fun characters and some humorous parts. I, for one, might see it in theaters again. Which is something I have never even considered doing with a movie. It made for probably one of the most fun times at the theater ever, if not one of the most philosophically/mentally/morally challenging ones. (Though we'll see after The Hobbit part one comes out whether it remains the best theater experience, I can't wait for that one... 
)
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
I have to say it lived up to my expectations, maybe even surpassed them. After reading not long ago that LOTS of the backgrounds, characters, and such were computer-generated, I was definitely looking for badly-done CGI. But it was done surprisingly well, and the only thing I can complain about were some backgrounds that didn't look quite realistic enough, and the light being cast from Gandalf's staff in Moria wasn't very realistic either, but then again it was magic 
. The acting was also very good, as were the costumes. Very believable. Pretty much everything was superb in this movie, except that it was so dark, but Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin livened it up making it seem less dark. Now too see the last two before December.
Twister (1996)
Incredible. Just incredible. I bloody loved this film. Everything happened right on cue. It had some "Oh, I did not see that coming" moments, and that is what I loved about it. Originality.

Amazing movie. The effects were just awesome and the story was great! There were some funny moments, but for the most part, it was pretty melancholy.

Loved this movie as a kid and I still love it now. The plot is great, acting is great, effects are great (even for this time and age) and the score is great. There are some improbabilities
There's a chance that in the climatic scene the two wouldn't have been hit by debris, it is highly unlikely.
however it's still a great film.
Aladdin
One of my childhood favorites. Great animation and plot. The humor in the movie is also extremely hilarious, even after 5000+ viewings.

I think Assemble was added in England because there was already something else named The Avengers, like a series or another movie.
There was an Avengers movie un-associated with Marvel (My family actually owns that Avengers film). I don't remember if it was UK or US though.

Snow Dogs
I remembered watching it when i was about 7 and really liking it (i liked about any movie back then). But i watched it yesterday and i was in shock of the stupidity of it, i must admit it had it's funny moments but the rest of the film sank deeper than the Mariana Trench,

The Social Network
I would be surprised if Facebook had any endorsement in this film, because it made Zuckerberg look terrible. The soundtrack was good, and it was very good in cinematography, but I found myself confused at how almost every character had some vice to hide, or was overall unattractive. I guess it was only an interpretation of the real founding, but I still look at Facebook differently, in a negative way.
The Adventures of Tintin
I think I already reviewed this one, but if I didn't it was great. They balanced comical humor with believability to an extent with motion capture mixed with animation. The story for the most part, was interesting. The characters were likable, and it all came together as an Indiana Jones with a mixture of different themes and a younger Henry. And while the mystery had it's cheesy moments, there were some jokes aimed at the adult audience, and I enjoyed it.

Well, it's not really a movie that gives you greater knowledges, so I wouldn't say uncultured swine. It's still a nice and entertaing film, very well done.
