What is the cheapest, best, most reliable tablet for a pc?

Re: Drawings and other Art

"Cheapest" and "best / most reliable" don't go together. I'd recommend getting an Intuos5 medium if it's affordable for you. I have the intuos4 but the intuos5 just came out and has some nice if not particularly major improvements; the price is pretty similar if you're buying them new, with the intuos5 costing just a little more.

If you need something cheaper the Bamboo tablets are mostly alright, but they're exponentially less precise than the Intuos, it'd be hard to do detailed line work and that sort of thing on a Bamboo.

I disagree; my sister stills uses a Bamboo tablet that's about two generations old now, and she does some truly brilliant work with it. The only problem you could potentially have is with the size of the active area, but in my opinion the medium Bamboo Fun looks to be a very good size if you're willing to pay a bit more for it.

Re: Drawings and other Art

A talented artist can usually make good work with tools that aren't very good, but current Bamboos have 25% the pressure sensitivity levels and 25% the resolution of the current Intuos, which is a fairly dramatic distinction. It depends what you're doing and what you can afford, I guess...I was working with an artist a while back who pretty much gave up at trying to do intricate inking work with his Bamboo b/c the resolution was too low to pull off what he was trying to achieve.

Re: Drawings and other Art

Dramatic as it may be, the current Bamboos actually have the same pressure levels as the Intuos3 tablets (I have an Intuos3 A5 wide) and the active area is actually bigger than the Intuos3 A6. Strangely though, the actual resolution and accuracy of both the Intuos and Bamboo lines hasn't altered at all over the years - the only thing they've changed is the pressure sensitivity.

Mind you, the Bamboos are missing the tilt and rotation functions, and those are a godsend in Painter, particularly in Painter 12 with the Enhanced Ghost Brush feature.

Personally, my view is this: if you're just getting into digital art, you can't go wrong with a Bamboo. If, further down the line, you've seriously gotten into it, then go for the professional level Intuos tablet. Just remember to turn on Force Proportions for whichever one it is, otherwise your circles will become ovals.

That being said, if someone gives you the chance to get a Cintiq that doesn't require selling body parts to afford one, take it.

Another drawing I did of Link. It seems my scanner messed up the shading a bit, but oh well. Also, I know that I haven't drawn one of the hands, I just couldn't get it right. mini/tongue

Well, in this picture it's Navi, though I was originally going to draw Clock Town in the background and have the fairy be Tatl instead (not that you'd see any difference with no colour).

It used to be in the Community before today, but I guess it was moved.
