Should I use stock footage for guns or not?

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

If you can make a good effect with it, yes, but if not, no.

It all depends if you have the programs to do it or not. If you do, and know how to use them, go for it. But if not, I would say it is best to do them with bricks, or clay.

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

How can you use Photoshop? And does anyone know a good, free way to make gunsmoke myself?

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

I make a muzzle flare in photoshop against a black backround layer. When I'm done I delete the backround layer, export the image as a PNG file and lay it over the video in Sony Vegas. I did that in this video.

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

I know how to make the flare, I'm talking about smoke to make it more realistic. I can't find a good way to make smoke in Photoshop or Gimp. I might just use the stock footage I have.

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

If you want smoke you'll prodably have to use stock footage to make it realistic.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Thanks!

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

You would need expensive software for great effects, it's sad. I mean 84 euros or $ are still expensive prices too.

Not true at all. mini/no

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

Debugmode's Wax is pretty powerful and can key muzzle flares. However, it's quite old software so it might be high on system resources.

Well, by industry standards, after effects ($999.99) is the cheapest thing you can get.
The industry also calls Autodesk products ($3,000 to $20,000 per program) "cost efficient."

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

If you have a Mac, check out Apple's $50 Motion 5 software. It's definitely not as powerful as Adobe After Effects, for example, it kind of sucks when you try and make lightsabers, BUT, it is an excellent way to make realistic smoke and muzzle flashes (I'm assuming your using stock footage). Check out the tutorials on the web, it's quite good software!

Re: Gun stock footage or not?

The student discount, really makes After Effects alot cheaper.

How much do you have to pay with the student discount?
