How come you can't do it? Go to your channel ----> settings ------> background and upload the file. Make sure you don't exceed the max file size which is only 1MB (the limit should be at least 2MB but youtube fails yet again). You probably tried uploading a bigger file than 1MB cause I sure tried doing that in the beginning.

It really is annoying that the avatar file size, is bigger then the channel background size. Really youtube?

How can I make a picture file that small? My current background is the exact same format and compression as an even SMALLER background I tried to uploaded, but the filesize was just bigger.
I know, guys. It's simply pathetic. 1MB is a joke because if I make a good background (detailed and stuff) it's at least 1.5MB and if I go under 1MB the quality is crap so what are we supposed to do? Gosh there are so many things wrong with this frickin layout, youtube just doesn't give a *beep* anymore.
I have a new background:

Is there a way I can put ads on my videos and start to make money even though I'm not 18 yet?
Maybe using my mom's name, or something like that?
Thanks!
(I don't mind if Google has to "pay" my parents if that's what I have to do, I'd just like to know if there's a way to do that.)

Yupp, most people on here aren't 18. Get an adult to make an AdSense account (or whatever it is, I forget exactly), and YouTube will do it through that. YouTube doesn't require that the money is going into something that has your name.
maybe i should start a strike for YouTube to get bigger backgrounds?
Nah i'm joking! ![]()
So I went to watch one of my YouTube videos and noticed that another one was in the "Featured" slot on the side where the suggestions are. I thought that section was for people who paid YouTube to advertise their video there. What is it really all about? This is what I'm talking about:
...Well I'm jealous
that is rather odd though, I thought it was the same way, but apparently not.
This from YouTube on Featured videos:
Featured Videos will be primarily populated with videos from YouTube's thousands of partners, but might also include select user videos that are currently popular or that we have previously showcased in Spotlight Videos. We will automatically rotate these videos throughout the day to keep them fresh. Featured Videos are not advertisements or paid placements, but do feature content from partners with whom we have a commercial relationship.
I'm seriously beginning to consider applying for partnership soon. I'm about to hit 300 subscribers and 10,000 total views at the same time. I only am beginning to think I'm ready because of a variety of things, but also because I upload regular content and I've only been on YouTube for less than 4 months and I've already gotten that much of an audience.

I have 3 videos featured right now and I don't pay for that. The bad thing though is you can't really pick which video is among the featured so theoretically your worst video might one day be promoted
(happened to me last year).
