Re: Star Trek Discussion

Thanks for sharing Tobias! I recently discovered Star Trek Abridged series on youtube and IMHO they are hilarious I quote them all the time now mini/bigsmile "Damn cracker you mad!" (Uhura to Kirk)

contains adult humor so if you're under 13 you might totally not get the jokes mini/lol

Re: Star Trek Discussion

One thing I love about Star Trek are it's soundtracks. Even though Star Trek TMP was a bit of a bore, the soundtrack was riveting! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yfke0GCR1k

Re: Star Trek Discussion

So I just watched episode two "Charlie X" and I've gotta say, I didn't like it as much as "The Man Trap", but it was still pretty good. The whole plot was quite depressing which made a good atmosphere.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

For The Original Series, my favorite episodes are:

A Piece of the Action

Kirk and Spock become mobsters! mini/bigsmile

And Trouble with Tribbles

It's funny as can be. mini/cat

People need to see those before thinking TOS is dull.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

I've watched a fair amount of TNG, most of Voyager, most of Enterprise, and a little of TOS and DS9. I think I like the tone of the non-TOS series better, though TOS is hard to beat for memorable characters; the films hold up a lot better than the show, I think.

Still, none of Star Trek has really ended up transcending to be my favorite television ever. I think there are a lot of mediocre or bad episodes in every Trek series.

My favorite television shows remain LOST and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

My favorite TOS episodes are:

The Cage
The Original pilot which was turned down and later was turned into 2 episodes "The Menagerie" part1&part2. I actually liked Captain Pike more than Kirk, he seemed more captain'ish mini/lol

Corbomite Maneuver
I really liked the ending.

The Trouble with Tribbles
As mentioned above it indeed is very funny.

Yes the truth is TOS had a lot of bad episodes but it sure had very memorable ones as well. Like The Arena or Amok Time.

Oh and I really love the fight sequences in TOS they are so amateur'ish mini/bigsmile ha ha and also in most sequences it so easy to see the body doubles, usually they even have different hairstyles ROFL mini/lol

Re: Star Trek Discussion

I've also just watched "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and the beginning was a bit boring but otherwise it wasn't a bad episode.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

I liked The Squire of Gothos

Re: Star Trek Discussion

I just finished Where no man has gone before. I have to agree with Tobias on that one. mini/smile

Edit: And The Enemy Within. It was okay, but not my favorite.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

Why did they decide to replace Captain Pike with Captain Kirk after the Cage?

I believe it was because Hunter wasn't able to continue, and the network ordered a second pilot, so they simply replaced him with Kirk.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

I've read somewhere that Hunter lost interest in the project, if the network would've picked up the show instantly we probably would've never seen Captain James T. Kirk in these series. The weird thing is that Hunter died the same year TOS ended (as much as I remember).

Absolutely. I feel like the Original Series episodes posses an imperialistic divide-and-conquer-in-the-name-of-exploration-and-peace (the films less so), while the Next Gen series has a much more diplomatic feel to it, both when dealing with worlds, and with spacial exploration, especially in the Voyager episodes. I guess this is why I like the TNG and Voyager series much more than the Original and DS9 series.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

Oh, so I'm not the only one in the world to prefer the Next Generation! Yay!
But that's possibly because I have seen a lot more of that. I think what I have seen of the original series is better, but I find the characters more relatable in Next Gen.

But the best Star Trek series ever is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q_Po_ZVO70

Re: Star Trek Discussion

The Wrath of Khan is one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. The relationship/rivalry between Khan and Kirk alone is just brilliant. Also, the "KKKKHHHHAAAAANNNNNN" moment is really powerful when its put into context (taken out, however - its hilarious)

As for the shows - I've only seen a few episodes of TOS. Whilst the production design is dated and it often slides into campiness - from what I've seen its actually an excellently written show. One day I'll have enough money lying around to buy the full series...

Meh, I preferred the one with the whales...

Re: Star Trek Discussion

TOS series used to be available on youtube (last year) but CBS/Paramount somewhy removed it. Have any of you guys seen the updated effects TOS episodes? Does it make any difference? Because I have the non-updated TOS episodes.

Re: Star Trek Discussion

I just saw "The Naked Time." I liked it. It was simple, funny and pretty entertaining and intense. I liked when

Spoiler (click to read)

Riley sang because of the disease, that was pretty funny.

Sadly, many of the episodes, they didn't put that much work into it. The first episode they "updated" Balance of Terror, looked REALLY bad and fake. Near the middle they seemed to get their footing though, and episodes like "The Doomsday Machine" look very nice. It does help to clean up the episodes though.

Mudd's Women: It was okay, but I was kind of disappointed by the "believe in yourself" ending. mini/confused
