Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I completely agree with that except for the bit about un-nescessary. Cinematographically RotS is much better than the other two prequels (probably because they left all the good story material to this one!!1!!1!!) but there are quite a few plotholes (not only in this one, but the whole prequels.)

I still think Jar Jar is funny though. mini/bigsmile

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I didn't mention all the plotholes everyone and their mother has already mentioned. There's all the stuff fans have picked up like "In Episode VI, Leia says she barely remembers her mother, but in Episode III Padme died in childbirth", "Why does R2D2 have a jetpack when he never uses it in the later movies?", "Why doesn't the Rebellion use the security camera footage of the Jedi Purge as evidence that Palpatine and Anakin are both out of their god-damn minds?" and "Why doesn't Obi-Wan and Yoda confront the Emperor together?"

The Secret World of Arrietty

Just saw this film last night. I'm a big fan of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki, and if you are as well you'll probably like this movie. The animation was superb as usual. One of my favorite parts of this film was the sound design. When following the borrowers, you heard from the position of the borrowers and all of the sound effects were made to feel like gigantic things were around you. Swapping between the normal hearing of a human and then that of a borrower immersed me into the film. If you're looking for an action film, this isn't for you, but if you're looking for a wonderful and heart warming story it is. I give Arrietty a 8/10.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

For anyone that didn't care for the Star Wars Prequels, read this article.

EDIT: I also read an article recently on how to show the Star Wars saga, but I forget the link:

Episode IV
Episode V
Episode I*
Episode II
Episode III
Episode VI

This way, you still keep the big *surprise* from Episode V, and then go back and watch the prequels as an extended flash-back, which ties III and VI (which are similar) together better.

*The author of the article recommends leaving Episode I out entirely, but I don't know if I would do that.

Gulliver's Travels (the Jack Black one)

Um, no. I didn't really care for this one. I just didn't like it. At all.

4/10

Gulliver's Travels (the miniseries)

Astounding, highly developed, funny at some points. Well, as Link would say, "Great!". I can honestly walk away from this film saying, "Three whole hours well spent!". Ted Danson, Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif...all those classic stars that nobody remembers brought together. mini/bigsmile

Jim Henson's "work" in this film was a nice touch as well. I'd go up to Charles Sturridge and give him a pat on the back.

Cars

It still makes me laugh.

When I first saw it I REALLY wanted to see it! I'm glad it's good!

You mean this? It was that article which encouraged me to watch the prequels again...

I actually think removing Episode I is a brilliant idea. The only problem is that anyone watching for the first time will have no idea who Qui-Gon is; although I still have no idea who Master Sifo-Dias (sp?) - the guy who commissioned the clone army - is! Was it Palpatine in disguise? For a while I thought it was Qui-Gon because Obi-Wan refers to him as "My master"! In all the prequels, its as though Lucas is constantly leaving plot-points open just so that he can make more novels, comics, and video-games about them!

Episode I is very similar to the The Clone Wars Movie in how it doesn't fit into anything. There is nothing to be learned from Episode I because there is narrative gap between I and II that lasts over ten years! As I said, it only takes sixty seconds of Anakin and Obi-Wan in an elevator together in Episode II to establish what Episode I spent over two hours trying to convey. Episode I is mostly about Qui-Gon and Padme; which means its pointless because Qui-Gon dies at the end, and Padme's character completely changes (although she doesn't age at all!!). Also, Padme saying "Annie? My goodness you've grown!" and "Your still that little boy I knew on Tatooine" is a much better establishment of Anakin's past that what we actually got. Also, NO JAR JAR!! Jar Jar is only annoying in Episode II and III because we know the damage he did in Episode I. I'm sure watching him in Episode II without seeing Episode I would be like seeing Rob Schnieder in Demolition Man without knowing who he is.

What I love about 'Machete Order' is that it both makes the two prequels better; and also makes Episode VI - the weakest of the original trilogy - much better. Episode II and III become much more relevant because they are directly attached to the original trilogy, and not only does Episode VI look like Citizen Kane in comparison to the prequels, it means that the tension created by Episode V's cliffhanger lasts longer than the 30 seconds it takes to swap the DVD over to Episode VI.

Well, that was until I saw the article you posted about the 84 minute cut of all the prequels. If the edit is available as a torrent online, then by the sounds of it - it'll work perfectly with the 'Machete Order'. The problem with 'Machete Order' is that Episode II and III are combined meant to be an extended flashback - but over four hours is a very long flashback. By cutting it to 84 mins, its both explaining how the galaxy went to the dogs whilst delaying the tension between Episode V and Episode VI.

Johnny English (2003)

I added this film to my new top ten favourite movies. Laughing my socks off at this one. Rowan Atkinson is perfect for the role. Nobody else could replace him (not even David Tennant or Eddie Murphy). This film id astounding, yet witty.

Lucas took inspiration from classic mythology in the Original Trilogy

I don't believe it as mythology, but whatever.

Sky High

IMO, it is a pretty bad movie, but it sure does have that nostalgic feeling (I honestly want to cry whenever I see it). It also has a few laughing moments, however not on cue.

Young Adult
Quite good. I expected it to be very much like Juno but I was glad to see it being a lot darker. However, it could have been longer and I would have prefered to see Oswalt play a bigger part.

I meant that the Original Trilogy is closely based on stuff like King Arthur...

Escape from L.A.
The funniest comedy I've seen in a while!
Seriously, though, a lot of this was so overly awesome that it became hilarious. The Kurt Russel/Peter Fonda surfing scene is a good example. Plus, when Bruce Campbell's name came up at the start I lost it.
Very trashy but highly entertaining. I hope Carpenter makes Escape from Earth sometime.
