Re: Animation Test Montages

Running is extremely hard to reproduce with LEGOs (I spent a lot of time trying different things without being totally satisfied)...
Well, both motions look OK, but I think they're too slow. You should try to speed up your animation, it will look more convincing.
What are the differences in the "superhero" animations? Personally I prefer the first one, but I can't tell why... mini/wink

I have just released Indiana Jones and the Mystical Gemstone, you can watch it here!

Re: Animation Test Montages

Okay, thanks. I'll try to figure out a better run cycle. mini/smile

Re: Animation Test Montages

I've seen that run cycle, but I'm using 20 fps, so I have to figure out my own. Thanks anyway! mini/bigsmile

Re: Animation Test Montages

Your running is too slow. mini/confused  Sorry, being truthful. It needs to advance across the plate faster than a walk cycle.
I personally use and like this run cycle from BlobStudios.
Happy brickfilming. mini/wink

Double Post:
I filmed a couple more run tests: http://youtu.be/bh_RbMFBjd4

I think the second looks best.

Re: Animation Test Montages

In all your tests, I'm noticing horizontal black lines.
Are you using regular yellow light bulbs?  That's usually what causes it.
Switching to full-spectrum (white) light bulbs fixes that.

Re: Animation Test Montages

Thanks minifig. Currently I have "Soft White" bulbs in my lamps because I find that they give a more "natural" lighting feel to the scene, but are these bulbs my problem?
Also in my It Runs in the Family, in the pirate scene, black lines are very visible. Is this the same problem?

Re: Animation Test Montages

running is defenetly hard. I've pretty much mastered walking. I can do fast walks slow walks happy walks and sad walks but I can't get a run cycle down. I am also animating at 24 frames per second, though in some scenes I think I could have gone slower. I think your run cycles are really good Mighty Wanderer, keep it up mini/bigsmile

It seems so.  Despite the name, "Soft White" bulbs are just a regular yellow bulb with a coating on it (or something).
The only kind of bulb that gives off white light are the full-specrtum ones.

And yes, that looks like the same problem.

Re: Animation Test Montages

Hmm. Do the Full-Spectrum ones reduce light flicker even more?

I guess so.  The black line thing is a type of flickering.

Re: Animation Test Montages

Oh, thanks! Well, it looks like the only non-soft white bulbs we have are Reveal 75w bulbs. Will these work, or should I get different ones?

Edit: Or should I ask, are these full-spectrum bulbs?

Re: Animation Test Montages

The flip was too slow in the middle of his rotation. mini/confused If he kept moving a bit it would've looked better.
Just trying to help, while not seeming like a jerk.

Well, I messed up a little on the masking, he was supposed to be landing on his hands, then pushing off again. mini/tongue

Re: Animation Test Montages

Ahh. Recently I've noticed that I stink at masking for some reason. mini/sad
In my older videos (cannonball & Telek test) they were decent.
