Topic: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

A test I did a few weeks ago using some new pieces. Wasn't supposed to be a test exactly but it really is.  Let me know your thoughts or any ways I can improve any of these things. The camera was tricky because it was hard to get some in between frames as he rotates it up to his face.

It looks very smooth! Only his hair moves a little bit. What framerate did you use?

They look pretty good. Also, I like your username. Welcome to BricksInMotion.

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

Not quite sure but it was something odd like 33fps I believe. The hair movement was accidental but I think it actually turned out nicely as it seems to mimic hair movement especially for that hairstyle.

Edit: Thank ya kindly, Smeagol!

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

33 fps is massively overkill, in my opinion. 15 fps looks pretty good and I don't see much point in going over 24 fps with stop motion even if you want it to look really smooth. Mostly I just think it'd be a lot of wasted time and effort for little to no noticeable difference.

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

I haven't been animating very long and as such I don't really know the ins and outs of FPS. I've heard mixed things about it. The reason why this was at 33fps is simply because I shot so many frames to do this test and I had to have that many frames per second to make it fast enough. I've seen both 15fps and 24fps and I must confess that I really enjoy the feel and look of 24 over 15. Not to say that 15 is bad of course, it can be done great!

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

I liked the animation, it was very smooth. The camera flash effect was quite cool too. In a finished product film try to avoid bumping the hair (I realize how hard, and frustrating it is myself.) Otherwise, I quite enjoyed this mini/bigsmile.

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

There were only a few bumps which were already pointed out. Pretty smooth too. mini/smile
Overall, great job. Keep it up!

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

Good.  The only thing that I found wrong with it is the head change was choppy.  It's not your fault, that's how the heads are.  What I do to hide the choppiness is to have the minfig move while changing the head.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Camera, Expressions, and Drinking Test

Thanks all! And good tip there minifig051 about the head changing, thanks for that! I enjoy doing simple head changes like that or nothing at all throughout rather than adding in mouth movement.
