It seems a bit weird that the gate just come out of the ground. You should have a stud (or circle of studs) for it to appear from.
Other than that, it's pretty.
Wait! wait! wait! You got Adobe After Effects? That seemed expensive, but good luck using it.

I think you could use a mask on the fig. We see portal waves behind him whereas it should be in front of him. But I like the effect. It really looks like a teleporting zone from a lego universe.
