Attack of the Blocks - Lego Horror Parody

Attack of the Blocks - Youtube

Attack of the Blocks is a Lego Stop Motion animation made by Jammy Custard Studios for Halloween. The short film is done in the style of an old fashioned Horror film trailer, referencing famous scenes, actors and techniques from 1930s-1950s cinema. How many film references can you spot?

Re: Attack of the Blocks - Lego Horror Parody

Thanks! It was a lot of fun to make. I wanted to spend more time on it and redo certain scenes to improve some of the walks and bits of set that moved but was forced to carry on due to time constraints.

I wrote a blog post about the project here if you are interested: http://www.jammycustard.co.uk/attack-of-the-blocks

I enjoyed it a lot. mini/smile

You seemed to capture the old horror movie style very well (though, I haven't actually seen any, so I wouldn't be the best judge at that). Animation was great, and the sets were cool. I look forward to more from you.

Thanks mini/smile

We did research into the style on youtube. For example this is the trailer for Frankenstein in the 1930s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN8K-4osNb0

We studied many of these trailers to work out the styling, language and techniques. For example we used rear-projection for the car scene, a technique that would've been used back then to simulate driving.

What, no greenscreening at that time? Oh wait, back then it would have been greyscreening, of course... mini/lol

But really, the rear projection was such a brilliant addition!

Thanks, not many people notice, apart from a few animator friends who immediately spotted it.
