Will I still retain my rights to my film? As in, you won't be able to make money off of it with anything besides the festival.

Absolutely. All submitters retain full rights. By submitting the only thing you'll consent to is allowing us to use a portion of your film (up to 20% or 30 seconds) for promotional purposes. Essentially, so we can cut together a trailer for this year's festival. But that's it. The film is still entirely owned by you.

It's actually smart that you asked, there are a lot of animation/pitch contests that try to steal and own your submitted ideas, even if you don't win. CartoonBrew.com had a write-up on some of these deceitful contests.

Cool. mini/smile

Yeah, I'm the type of guy who reads those really long terms of use things and such before clicking the accept button with stuff. he he he

Re: Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival 2011 [CLOSED]

Well, this looks certainly interesting. I might enter my current project, I should have enough time to finish it before the deadline.

Re: Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival 2011 [CLOSED]

I would love to enter and go but I don't think my films will make the cut and of course I have school that week.

I'd eat you in half if I wasn't playing with Legos right now!

Re: Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival 2011 [CLOSED]

I heard this festival was really profetionnal.  I'm not sure 2 minutes long lego videos would match with that festival.  I am now sure through.

Would Soungle and iMovie HD sound FX as Brickfilms.com sound library effects be acceptable? Those are all royalty-free.

You'll never know unless you submit! Next year there will most likely be a youth screening, for films made by people in elementary and high school. So keep animating!

Yup, that's the reason these kinds of sites exist! Any music or sounds from royalty-free/copyright-free sites like Soungle, freesoundproject, sounddogs, or that come with software are perfectly acceptable.

Do you happen to have a link to that post? It intrigues me.

Unfortunately I have nothing of notable quality to give you, but I wish your festival good luck.

Might enter.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival 2011 [CLOSED]

I've only just noticed this. Very interesting, I may throw something in.
So this is a festival right? Not a contest? Because that actually makes me more keen on it, a lot of my recent stuff has been made for competitions so it doesn't always feel right to enter them into more competitions, it makes you look like you're just making one film and seeing how much you can win out of it. That isn't the case with me at all, I just love the idea of it being screened at a professional festival. I've already entered Marooned into 2 competitions, so I may not enter it again. But then again it is my best work, and if there isn't any prizes then its not another competition I'm entering it into.

But this definitely interests me. I will probably enter something, I might as well. Do you show all the films? Or only the 'best' ones?

Re: Montreal Stop Motion Film Festival 2011 [CLOSED]

So how do we send our movie in the mail? Or is is an email type thing.

Sorry I haven't been on the boards lately, been pretty busy with my regular day job as of late.

1. The Montreal Stop-Motion Film Festival is a film festival. Awards are given out in each of the three categories: Academic (school) films, Independent films and Professional films. So in that sense, the festival is competitive. However, we don't charge for entry, and you don't give up any rights upon submission. Free to enter, no sneaky stuff.

2. The festival runs for three days, and we try to run as many films as we can. We do have a submissions jury, but as the festival is still extremely young (only on our third edition) we do screen many amateur films.

I just confirmed with our festival director that brickfilms are indeed not eligible for the festival this year. I wasn't aware this was the case, as brickfilms were allowed in the festival's previous two editions. I'm not entirely sure why this change was made, I'm shocked myself. I apologize for wasting everyone's time, and effort if you've already submitted films.

However, it's very likely that we will have a "Toymation" category next year, which will be for films created with Legos, Bionicles, articulated toys, etc. So keep on brickfilming! Once again, I want to apologize for the mix-up. Hope you guys don't harbor any ill-will. I'd personally love to have brickfilms in the festival, but the choice isn't mine. But I will definitely be fighting for the creation of that Toymation category next year! mini/bigsmile

The organizer of the stop motion film festival is one of the supporters of the Halo Toymation Contest, Erik Goulet!

I hope you will all enter! I'll do my best to check it out this year (since I am in Montreal).
