Topic: Music experimentation

I don't really know how to write music, but I've been playing piano recently coming up with random tunes and stuff and thought I might give it a try. (ignore the dumb title, I didn't fell like thinking of a good one)
SoundCloud Link Let me know what you think. Just keep in consideration that this is the first song I ever made mini/smile If I can get good at this I may be able to compose the score to my brickfilms!
this was made in lmms

Re: Music experimentation

What key is this in? I noticed a couple clashing notes, otherwise not bad. Nice little dealy.

I used Lmms as I mentioned in my first post mini/tongue (It stands for Linux MultiMedia Studio) (It isn't just for linux, and it isn't really multimedia) mini/smile

That's great! mini/bigsmile
I think Brickfilms need some more good original scores. Hope to see some stuff from you with your own music.

Re: Music experimentation

How long did it take to compose it?

Re: Music experimentation

That's nice, it reminds me of the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack.

THIS.

''You don't have to tell him how great is coffee is man!''

Re: Music experimentation

That's pretty cool!

I've been considering doing some with my guitar, but I have no idea how to go about recording it properly.

Re: Music experimentation

Here's another test song I made today: song 2.
Other than the ending, I think it turned out OK but I still have a lot to learn about writing music... this is also my first song made in mixcraft. let me know what you think please.

edit: also would anyone who actually knows how to write music care to give me some tips on how I can make this better/get better in general?

Re: Music experimentation

No bad at all!  Personally, I think it would sound best if it ended at around 2:09. That section was particulary pretty to me and sounded like a conclusion.  I would also prefer if the organ background was changed to strings (violins particularly).  Have you ever attended a live symphony?  It is wonderful to actually see which/how many instruments are used at varying times to achieve varying moods (if you are not part of an orchestra already).  You might find it very inspiring. You have some real talent, and I look forward to enjoying more pieces from you. mini/smile

Re: Music experimentation

That's actually really good!! You think you could compose some for me? I really love it! I feel like downloading it to my iPod mini/lol

yeah I think I might make some adjustments to the ending still i just haven't gotten around to it. I'm confused because there is no organ part at all... do you mean the Cellos? (that's the first part you hear) I can see how that kind of sounds like and organ... I have been to some concerts before and the most recent one I went to was especially nice, though now that i'm interested in writing music I should go to some more mini/smile Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

I would like to be able to compose for people when I get good enough but I'm not quite there yet mini/smile thanks so much though!

Edit: Would anybody like to suggest a name for this song? currently it is "song 2" which isn't a very interesting name...

YES. I personally enjoy scoring my films almost more than any other part of the production process.

Re: Music experimentation

Yes, it must be the cello part, although I just listened again. and it still sounds like an organ.  I don't know if it's the quality of your program or the quality of my speakers.  Like I said, maybe violins would produce the "strings" sound you are looking for. mini/smile
