Topic: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Small suggestion...
Whenever I go to the "Contests & Festivals'" section, I go through and read (quite a few threads) to see which contests are active. Wouldn't it be easier if threads for contests had a special 'marking system' to show if the contest is still going on or has expired? Like a colored brick, perhaps?

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Could be as simple as contest hosters adding an [ACTIVE] or [ENDED] tag at the start of the topic, would save a lot of pissing about in the forum code, and this forum software in particular is a nasty peice of work.

How hard would it be to do that though?

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Maybe if it also said when the thread was started, as well as when the last post was. Then it'd be easier to time things. Or have a section next to it just to say when it's active or not.

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

That might be quite useful SebJS74, it wouldn't be hard to implement either.

What do you guys think about something like this?

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

That's cool! It should be an optional thing on threads, ideally, as not all threads in the forum will call for it.  Ideally it'd be nice if the start and end were filled by some kind of date based input so people couldn't just write whatever they want.

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

D'you only want it on the Contests forum Smeagol?

I'll implement it later on.

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Yeah, that'd be the idea, just the Contests forum.

Aled, I think it looks like onemanfilms is intending to handle this.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I don't know who're the admins around here, I'm new, but cheers anyway mini/smile

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

To be honest usually the active contests appear near the top due to most recent posting, apart from when they're stickied. I've added an [ACTIVE] sign to my contest anyway, so maybe that'll help for the moment, don't know.

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

That's true, Onion, except when a new member or the like bumps an old contest thread. Good work, fellahs.

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Personally, I think that once a competition finishes, the thread should be moved to a different section, perhaps - 'Previous Contests'

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Or it could just be locked. But I like the start/end tags idea better.

Re: Contests & Festivals 'Marking System'

Yeah, from time to time there are lingering bits of discussion about a contest long after it has ended, so I prefer not to lock at least the results thread for a contest.
