Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

The big problem I have with the "new" BF.com is that so much old material has been deleted, including the huge library of films, and the resources section. I'm hoping that Aled has archived all of the old stuff, but right now so much has been lost.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

It'd be ideal if the owner of this site could get ahold of the brickfilms.com domain; and have brickfilms.com redirect to here, bricksinmotion.com

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

In the forum RevMen asked him if all that was deleted, Aled said it wasn't.
I must say, I love the old design of BF, it reminds me of when I started, it has a nostalgic feeling (I'm not saying that because of my movie). But thinking about it, I don't see the purpose of having two websites about the same thing with the same users. I signed up anyway. I especially hope to see all resources and the films in the directory back: I spent a lot of time there searching for movies, and unfortunately I didn't see enough of the good stuff that was there.

Actually, I was thinking the opposite. BiM would redirect to BF. And the layout would be a mix of BiM and BF. Nostalgic, yet new.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

Have some of y'all forgotten that our films are called brickfilms, not bricks in motion or LEGO MUVEES?  Have you forgotten that brickfilms.com came before bricksinmotion.com and all that you see here in BiM is derivative of the old Brickfilms.com?  Some of you are coming off ignorant of that.

The logic of newcomers to this hobby is to find sites related to it and brickfilms.com is the first thing they'd come across.  They'll discover BiM when someone tells them about it so in that regard, you need brickfilms.com in order to have bricksinmotion.com  I've observed the previous forum of Brickfilms.com during its state of shamble and I see plenty of guest users on the site despite no active member being there.  As much as what we have right now (31 guest @Brickfilms vs 27 guest @BiM).

BiM comes off as the elitist's site, where avid brickfilmers gather to critique and share each other's work.  Until recently, BF was reduced to the children's table.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

Not trying to be mean, but what is the point of bringing back the old BF site?
We have a productive site and it's right here.
Sure, people like myself might get a fit of nostalgia now and then.
I wouldn't mind reading some of the old material from way back or take in an old film.
This is pretty much what the old site could be somewhat good for.
Also, to help people see some higher quality old films rather than to separate the wheat from the tares on YouTube.
The resources section is waaaay out of date, so that area doesn't really matter.

I'm pretty sure the current management will never go for this idea...
but why not just have it to where BF redirects you to BiM when you click on the 'forum' link.
Then have an 'archive' link to the old forums.

EDIT....Didn't BertL have an archive of most of the old films from BF.com?

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

Honestly, it doesn't matter to me what site becomes the most popular brickfilming site in the future, I'll just stay where ever the most active forum and community is.  Making an account on both would just be confusing, checking two forums each day.

I would probably be right to think bricksinmotion.com will come out the most popular site of all this.  BFs.com died long ago and will most likely stay that way, although who knows?  It could come back.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

Brickfilms.com needs to find a new role that doesn't involve mirroring BiM's community/directory focus. I know it sounds ironic, considering that said features originated with BF, but the reality of the situation is that the community has shifted and it doesn't do anyone much good to have some sort of inter-site struggle for dominance.

The idea of a showcase site/blog has been floated (and shot down by TaaB, unfortunately) before and, to me, it is the most logical option moving forward.

According to Aled TAAB has recently approved the idea. That's what he said in the chat. Might need to confirm that.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

In the forum RevMen asked him if all that was deleted, Aled said it wasn't.

Close - Aled said he didn't do it (delete all the old information), not that it wasn't deleted. I think that the safe assumption is that it's all gone.

He had/has a lot of them yes.

BF.com used to be such a great site.
Now it's a dusty, dry rotted, empty box, wrapped in vintage shiny paper with glitter bows stuck all over it.

Dusty? Hardly. It was just restored.
Dry Rotted? An Empty Box? Empty box, yes, for now. Films and more topics will soon grow in.
Vintage Shiny Paper? Seems right. It is the new layout for Brickfilms.com though it isn't a new layout itself.

Though I think the main discussion here right now is basically everyone worrying all the archives from the old Brickfilms.com have been deleted or trashed. I can see why there is a reason to worry there, though BertL has some archives and I bet they aren't all wiped out. And even if they are wiped out, there's nothing we can do. You can go back and look at previous pages and films from Brickfilms from the Way Back Machine, which is basically a web archive viewing site.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

LASF, you really shouldn't presume to tell people who've been involved in the community much longer than you how they should respond to developments like this. It's fine to have an opinion, of course, but try taking a more receptive tack.

Re: Brickfilms.com Has Returned?

Guys, Brickfilms.com is dead. It has been for a LONG time. Why go back? We have a perfectly good site here. Reviving Brickfilms is basically a lost cause. It's like bringing back Michael Jackson. People will have to get over it.

Yea it would be nice if they just turned BF into a huge resource website. Like where all of the best tutorials links and whatever out there would help the brickfilmer. The community/forums don't have to reside there.  I do agree that I like BIM more than BF so I rather stay here.
