Topic: Oldies: An Update Thread

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/bioniclehero/Titles/new_sig_title.png

Introduction.

We all know what it's like to want to belong, right?

To want to have that place you know, you without a doubt know, is you're home.

This is something a lot of us as humans, no matter what country you're from or what race you are, tend to take advantage of until we've lost it. While you're here reading this, while I'm here writing it, there are hundreds of people that don't have this place to belong, this home.

And I'm talking about people who've lost a home. And it's not just some physical place built with a bunch of cut down trees. Home is where you belong, and it can be found with anything or anyone, no matter how strange they are. And a lot of us loose sight of what that home is until we've already lost it.

So that brings me to the point of this topic…

This is an update thread. Here, I shall keep you all up-to-date on my latest feature, the sci-fi comedy film with a heart 'Oldies'. So, why don't you guys go get some popcorn, grab an ice cold coke, and sit back and relax while I tell you all about it?

No? Well then how about I speed tell you about it like those guys in the medicine ads who try to say 'it might kill you' so fast you can't hear it as you walk away?

Okay, let's begin.

What is it?

This is a sci-fi comedy film with a heart. It tells a funny story parodying the alien invasion genre, but it also tells of these two idiots that have lost this home, and when they finally find that second chance have to defend it from ghosts of their own past.

The film is written like an hour to an hour and a half feature in the 'Three Act Structure', but is split up and animated into separate ten to fifteen minute segments, making it into more of a miniseries.

What's the story?

It fallows the story of these two elderly alien goofballs, Oldy and Old Coot, who after their home, a moon known as Asaar, is destroyed by a mysterious natural disaster find themselves searching the galaxy for a new place to belong.

And they finally find that, with a young boy named Twerp Lego, son of the famous archeologist Dr. Johnny Lego (a character from another related film). But Twerp has problems of his own, as with a bully at school getting him grounded, and the engineering convention known as the Brickfair going on. He has too much on his mind as it is! Must less not only keeping these two idiot hid in his closet, a task much like keeping an over hyper Chihuahua from smelling out new territory, from not only his family but form the peace keeping organization known as BRICK who seems to think the two are a threat. Oh, and don't forget, he also has to help the two morons save the Earth from the other Asaar survivors, who just happen to be demented on taking over the Earth and wiping out the human race.

Whose in it?

Well as I have yet to write all parts this will DEFINITELY grow later on, but here's the current crew credits. Some people may be recruited for doing textures, but for the most part I'll be doing the rest of the work.

Written, Directed, and Animated by: Cody Austin
Produced by: Ironman19725 (his YouTube)
Original Score Composed by: Russell Harris (his website)
Vocal Foley: Ben Tabasco (a.k.a. minifig051)

And for the voice credits, which shall also change. I'll set up a casting call at some point also which will have more details on all the open positions and their role in the miniseries, but I'll also be approaching some through PM on various sites, including here.

Oldy, Old Coot, & Johnny: Cody Austin
Admiral Viktor: Ironman19725
Twerp: LegoAndStickFigs (his YouTube)
Ryan (a.k.a. 'Agent Alpha'): (not open, but not closed yet either)
The Director: HouseOfTheToa (his YouTube)
Petunia: (note open, but not closed yet either)
Willy: (not open, not closed)
Jeffery: (open)
Agent 'Hawkeye': (open)
Narrator: HeirOfTheChronicler (his YouTube)

And here's the section for the guy's cast, I just don't know as who yet. Currently have - well, now back to one.

Ben Tabasco (a.k.a. minifig051)

Music Samples

As stated above, all music is composed by Russell Harris. Here's some samples of his work so far.

Initial demo, showing the more serious side of the movie.

Got any good frames? Maybe a poster?

Got a poster. And as such, this will grow more as animating begins.

Well, after looking over this thread I can genuinely say that I'm pretty excited for this. Can't wait to see some frames.

Thanks Onion. I'll also probalby post some concept models of a robotic 'mech' that'll be mostly present during the final parts, along with maybe some concept art of Asaar.

Thanks Eddie. But I'm not just replying to say thanks, this time...

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

Mostly Bricklink, Amazon and Ebay. I don't buy Lego at MSRP anymore, so S&H doesn't happen that often.

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

Wrong thread, pacific?

This is the thread you're looking for.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

So, how's it coming along?

Any updates?

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

So do you have a general idea of how long the film is going to be?

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

@LASF

I'm actually working on some concept designs right now, but am moving here in a week or two, and packing is quite time consuming. So probably won't be able to get much up until next month.

I hope to be finished with stop-motion animation by December, but for the CG animation... Looking at a good bit longer for this one.

Anyways, once I get moved expect to see more updates a lot more frequently. Until then all I can really gaurantee is maybe a couple of character photos.

@Anteater201 Studies

All parts put together, anywhere from eighty to a hundred ten minutes (both counting credits). But it's being split up like a series, although it is being written in the same general formate (type and story structure) as the American standard screenplay. So basically it's a feature length film broken down into a series, each episode set to serve some form of a purpose in the same way a scene would in a movie. There might be a final version where they're all put together later on, but that's not gauranteed.

But for each part individually? That could be anywhere from eight to fifteen minutes.

Anyways, sorry for the lack of updates. Will be sure to post anything if I get the time to finish that model before I move.

P.S. TO THE NUIMOBILE!!

Don't worry, it's completely fine to double post on your own update thread.

This looks like it will turn out well.

I'm playing a 'Main Character' mini/bigsmile

Good luck (with the film)! mini/smile

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

Yep, LASF. You are in fact a main charactor. You're role in episode one is relatively small as it focuses more on Asaar's destruction, but you're part will become more clear in episode two and by episode three you'll be in there as much as Oldy and Old Coot are.

Also, I have another possible future project I'd like to discuss with you. I'll PM you about it the next chance I get.

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

Keep a check on it MrLegoProductions, this is a pretty lengthy series and will grow in cast with each episode. You may not have anything now, but the cast will grow with every script written. I may just have something for you in episode two or any of the other later episodes. I can't guarantee a main character, but maybe a minor or one-liner character.

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

Well I can guarantee you there will be no shortage on 'em. mini/tongue A series like this there could be PLENTY, with about 6 to 8 episodes, each ten to fifteen minutes in length... Yeah, quite a good bit. Especially at the end which takes place in a heavily populated area.

So...

Yeah, excuse me while I go buy more minifigs. *runs off to eBay*

Re: Oldies: An Update Thread

Good luck on your series then, MrLego. Early stage of development is always my favorite part, coming up with all the characters and the initial concept.

Anways, here's a music demo composed by Russell Harris. This should give you a good idea on the serious side of the score.
