Most recent 2D animation I've seen is The Secret of Kells.

You missed one. And as other people have mentioned, we've got The Illusionist (French-British) and Winnie The Pooh, and I believe The King of the Elves is supposed to be traditionally animated as well.

So no, I sure traditional animation won't die, not as long as there are still people who want to see it.

It's rather hard for things to become non-existent now. People on the internet can for communities based on small niches.

What I meant was that 'Dead' is not the correct term to describe something like 2D animation. 'Unfashionable' is a far better term.

Its like the mohawk. Hardly anyone has their hair like that, but there are still some people who are trying desperately to bring it back. The only difference is that I want 2D to still be within the mainstream. I do like 3D animation, but I believe 2D is still an art-form and shouldn't be like Black & White (in that only Art-house films ever use it these days. Some of the best films I have ever seen are in Black & White...)

Sorry, I couldn't help to notice and yes. There are many but Eddsworld is funniest by far. 2D animations don't get funnier but I do think that 2D Go! Animate videos do ruin the fun. The automated voices are a little creepy and the animation runs too slow

Personally, I prefer hand drawn over Flash any day. Most of the guys up there seem to be Flash guys.

With beautiful works of art like this, who could claim 2D animation is dead?

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

Unfortunately, I am an "uncultured swine" and so 2D animation bores me.

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

lol, someone actually voted yes.

Of course 2D isn't dead, it will not die for a long time. Disney recently released The Princess and the Frog, which is 2D, and shows such as The Simpson, Family Gay, and South Park are sticking around for a while. The world ends when 2D animation does. Just sayin'.

Sorry, I'm correcting way too much today.
Anyway, yeah, I couldn't believe it either. One vote?! Wow. Who thinks 2D is deadz? Meh. But 30 something think not, ha. They are outvoted by FAR!

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

2D animation is more alive then stop-motion is and i'm guessing it will stay that way.

WARNING OFF TOPIC:] Hey someone should make a stop-motion TV show thats for adults.

It's called Robot Chicken.

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

All 3D movies start out as 2D sketches.  Also, animation in itself started with 2D drawings.

So, unless the world ends, 2D animation will never die, just maybe not be as popular as some might like it.

Now that's a good show.

Actually, 3D animation is dead. Case in point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryb9Xs94WDM

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

This video is not available in your country.

What was it a video of?

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

It's a song about a car named Roary. It's kinda like Cars. I don't really see how that video would explain how 3-D animation is dead. It had good animation.

But 2-D animation is never dead. When the world goes, it will too. As stated, many great animatiors started out working on 2-D, and when 3-D came, the fundamentals transfered over. 2-D is the foundation. Even if it is "forgotten", people will go back to it one way or another.

I still want to know who the two people are that voted that it is dead.

Re: Is 2D Animation Dead?

'Roary' is mostly stop-motion - which is another debate (since stop motion is also being replaced by 3D CGI. A great example is 'Flushed Away' - which I actually quite liked)
