Onion's 2012 Olympics - Diving

YouTube

My entry to the current Bricksinmotion Animation Challenge, "Making a Splash"! And also the first of hopefully many brickfilms leading up to the London 2012 Olympics!

Hope you enjoy, I know I did so making it.

Remember to watch in full 1080p as well!

I really like it! It had really good animation, and a nice turnout. I liked how you changed his hair to show that he was wet. It had a well-built set, though the pool could be a bit larger. It was probably the best one yet!

Well done!

Re: Onion's 2012 Olympics - Diving

*in the Olympic tune*
DUM DUM, DUM DUM DUM DUM, DUM DADA DUM DADA DUM DADA DUM DUM DUM DADA DUM DUM DUM!
I do that a whole lot. xD

Pretty great. mini/smile
You did a good job on the splash. I think it's the best yet. I like the hair change as Chris pointed out. And it's nice how it has a little bit of funny stuff and introduction which was unessential for the actual challenge, but adds some niceness.

I think it could have been somewhat better if you had the Olympic tune I love so much at the end and/or beginning though.

I look forward to future Olympic animations. I hope you do Fencing, it's my favorite sport. mini/smile

Great little film Onion! I really enjoyed your splash, I haven't had much of a chance to view the other entries, but it's going to be hard to top that!
4/5! Short and sweet.

Re: Onion's 2012 Olympics - Diving

Really good! The splash was well done. The camera angles were great! It would have been nice to have an aerial angle though. Sets were well built. How long did it take you to film the splash itself? Oh and what camera did you use to do 1080p?

Fantastic wee entry.

It's gonna take something magical to stop you from winning.

Back after taking a VERY FREAKING long break. 14 months, I believe. Anyways I'm going to be making films again. Much better ones.

Re: Onion's 2012 Olympics - Diving

This was, imo, the best concept of the challenge so far. However, I do think that the animation could have used some work, specifically a little faster splash would have been nice. Also, although the lighting was consistant for most of the time, there were a couple of flickers, but I guess that's very ticky tacky. Overall, this is the best entry imo (Well, besides mine).

I would have done, however there's a big copyright issue on that.

Good idea. Pity I didn't think of that at the time, although I don't think it made much difference.

Now this I disagree with. In actual fact, one of the main reasons I entered is because shortly after the animation challenge was announced, I went swimming, and whilst I was in the pool tried out a few cannonballs, in preparation for my entry. One of the thing I found was that diving off gives a small splash, whilst cannonballs give bigger ones, because your weight is compact. So actually I do think the splash worked.

Oh, really? mini/confused Could you show me where?

Mmm... I've heard it's okay if you use under 30 seconds. And you wouldn't need it longer than that.

I don't think that the size of the splash was the problem, I think it was the speed. Sure, large jumps often leave larger splashes that are slower than others, though I think that this splash could have been faster. The size was fine though.

It was in the first shot at the very beginning, but it's extermely hard to see. You have to have an exteremely keen eye to see it.

Re: Onion's 2012 Olympics - Diving

I didn't see any light flickers and the splash speed and size was fine I think.

Really good. mini/smile

Loving the hair change.

Re: Onion's 2012 Olympics - Diving

I noticed a bit of light flicker actually but I wouldn't be able to describe where easily...

Great job by the way! You are really starting to get good at this!
