Still, some people would get mad if they believe they should be a EA, but they won't let them in. If that does happen, I hope the EA group isn't too tight. But it would be horrible if it got too big as well.

Yeah, well, those people now get mad about not being on the panel, or getting a bad review.

Admittedly, the EA group will/should become a whole lot larger than the  current review panel, with corresponding risc, but the SA's should keep that in check. For example, if a NON-EA member gets invited, an SA member must add him to the group and hence has a final say in the matter.

Re: Review Panel Reform

I appreciate all the thought you put into laying that out, but I personally don't like the idea. It sounds too much like a "cool kids club" that would exacerbate the already present problem of more experienced filmmakers getting more attention on the site. It could get to be very political and manipulated very quickly, I think, sort of like how I get 2 or 3 messages a week asking how to become a moderator.

I don't think there are more than 2 prolific animators here whose work I generally enjoy, so giving everybody who makes films regularly a free pass doesn't hold much appeal to me.  I'd rather try to hold films to a consistent standard and have a system that gives new animators a level playing field as much as possible.

On a sidenote as far as user-generated reviews: I generally would hold that almost no reviews in the releases forum are good enough to be in the directory. I know that a lot of the younger kids here think their reviews are good enough and don't understand why we won't add them to the review panel, but I'm willing to be a bit elitist in this regard in order to keep the quality of editorial content on the site consistent.

Re: Review Panel Reform

I agree with Sméagol. Part of the "Golden Age" of Brickfilming was that everyone treated each other equally, regardless of skills. I thought we were all striving to bring it back.

"Golden Age"

There was no 'Golden Age', it was just a different brand of brickfilming. I think people on this site tend to think that Brickfilms.com=great. This is not the case. There are still just as great of brickfilms being produced today as there were before the migration, and just as many n00bed films (On the site, at least). Sure, YouTube does garner some below average films, but it doesn't mean that the good brickfilms aren't succesfull. In fact, YouTube makes the true animators stand out against the crowd, and shows the true work of art instead of stupid "OMG olololol" videos.

As for the idea, I agree with Smeagol; the older more respected members would get all of the attention (Like they do now).

I disagree.  The old Brickfilms.com contests got a consistent batch of good entries on a level that we haven't seen in a few years now.  I think mainly the community has gotten younger with time, so it's to be expected that that would result in a lot more low quality films cropping up.

Wrong. You weren't around during the age of brickfilms.com. You don't know what you're talking about.

Deal with it.

You see, it's comments like this that get me frustrated with this site. I don't mind people disagreeing with what I say, that's not my problem. My problem is this so called 'joking' that some of the more 'robust' animators give out. If I were to say the same thing to a different member, I'd get severely bashed. But since KG is KG, he most likely won't get bashed. We call ourselves a friendly community, but it's comments like these that are very unfriendly.

I can already see the flames.

KG, if you aren't going to be helpful, get off the site. I'm tired of your garbage. You can't be a prick to everyone and get away with it. Be nice or don't post.

OK, you need to cool off, KG. You can come back in a few days. Maybe then you'll consider being a little more pleasant.

Re: Review Panel Reform

I wonder what his problem is.
Also, Squash, thanks to your avvy, whenever you post something, I end up reading it in a Southern Belle accent. Curse you.

Similar to what I was mentioning about this being a transition point. Give a few years and the young members will be older members, and thus will be more experienced, not just as an animator, but as a member. We'll be in this same situation again in about 10 years, when the current generation are in their 20s, and the newbies are moving in.

This is a true statement for me, but I would assume that only the best brickfilms from the supposed "Golden Age" era were remembered. I'm sure there were plenty of trashy ones but the only ones that were remembered were really pro.

Re: Review Panel Reform

It is a true statement. But he could deliver the same message, but word it so it wouldn't be so harsh. Honestly, I think a ban for just a couple of days is too short. It's like how the system treats Lohan. She should be in for a couple of years, IMO. But instead she gets a short slap on the wrist. IMO, KG should be banned for a month. Sorry for being off-topic.

As I remember, she doesn't get out for long.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.
