Re: what should I get?

You do realize you need a pretty good computer to run AE, one with say only 2GB RAM and a terrible CPU and graphics card is going to make you cry at the lag.

Re: what should I get?

Our home desktop computer will work. It's got 4 GB RAM, 64 bit, and plenty of HD space. So no worry for me. mini/smile

It's actually a better idea if you build your own. It can be cheaper, and you can pick out all the parts which would suit you best.

Actually building your own computer is typically more expensive. Because company that build them for you buy part with huge bulk discounts and you do not get those discounts so the parts cost you more. Sure the company that made the computer takes some profit for themselves but it is less than the profit from the parts.

Re: what should I get?

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! I am soon getting a better laptop(very probable) but it's not that much better. It definately has more HD space and RAM. For all the software I am going to run like After Effects, I am going to use one of our home computers that is perfect for what I need to run. mini/smile

The computer you build might actually be better and faster than a computer at a store.
