It's actually a better idea if you build your own. It can be cheaper, and you can pick out all the parts which would suit you best.
Actually building your own computer is typically more expensive. Because company that build them for you buy part with huge bulk discounts and you do not get those discounts so the parts cost you more. Sure the company that made the computer takes some profit for themselves but it is less than the profit from the parts.
The computer you build might actually be better and faster than a computer at a store.
Depend on who you but it from but true.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! I am soon getting a better laptop(very probable) but it's not that much better. It definately has more HD space and RAM. For all the software I am going to run like After Effects, I am going to use one of our home computers that is perfect for what I need to run. :)

It is actually easier than it sounds. It really only takes one day to build it. Just do a google search about computer parts. You can also go down to your local computer store and ask for help there. If you build a computer you can get the exact specs you want, and alot of the time the computer you build is better than most commercial products.

if you want to build a GOOD computer, the cheapest I got mine made was 550 dollars with 8 GB RAM 3.2 GHz processor, and one terabyte HDD.
Works like a charm.
