It might be a little late to repond to this advice, but we'll try to do some wider angles, though it would be very difficult since we don't have that much LEGO to do so. Personaly, I like wider shots as well, but we can only do as far as our LEGO can take us.
Well, there might be a solution for this: since this is just an animation challenge, you might do wider angles without caring about the set. But the problem comes when you do brickfilms. I don't know how many bricks do you have, but I think you cando wider shots without problems, if you study well you shot and set, or you can just make us think (with some optical trick, I don't know) that the set is large and the shot is more distant...idk.
