Re: The Animation Challenge

Wow, 2 double posts in a row. That's a record.

Re: The Animation Challenge

I posted the same thing 5 times once, not intentionally, of course. I think that's a record for multi-posting the same thing.

Re: The Animation Challenge

This has to be one of the best challenges this thread has had - I'm definitely entering. Already have a few robots built, just have to animate them! mini/bigsmile

I'll be back animating soon! Exams and computer faults are keeping me away </3

I'm looking forward to the entries for this challenge. I think this will be amazing. I have no doubt I'm entering, just concerned about the competition...

Re: The Animation Challenge

Well Jay,
I must say, that was a wonderful job you did there in the board-sports challenge, and to be honest, I didn't notice any rigs at all the first few times I watched it. Notice the 'first few' I mentioned. I watched it at least twenty times, getting the amazement out of me. Though I do have a couple questions (a lot actually. It's not every day you can ask someone a question) such as:
1. What camera do you use, and do you use a screen capturing program with the use of onion skinning? (I think I possibly know the answer to the
second half of that question already mini/wink )
2. You mentioned that you have a youtube. I'm dazzled that you didn't put that entry up, no matter how bad you thought it was, so it leads me to
asking what your youtube username is?
3. (and lastly) What FPS did you animate your entry at. Almost everyone here animates at 15 frames per second, but your animation looked too
good/smooth to be 15, so is it 24?
With many thanks,
- Mason

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hi Mason,

I'll respond here in case anyone else is curious but if you have any more questions please send me a PM so we don't hijack the challenge thread.

1. My camera is a Canon HV20, a small HD video camcorder. My capture program is Dragon (which does do onion skinning but I don't use it, I prefer to toggle back-and-forth).

2. On YouTube I'm "zirkusaffe3". I didn't put Hill Hazard on YouTube because I'm extremely choosy about what I put up  there - this didn't turn out to have any sort of story, really, and is unfinished so it doesn't make the cut. I have two other more popular brickfilms (The Gauntlet and a trailer called Star Wars III: Rise of the Empire) that I won't put up because I don't own certain audio elements in them. Other people have posted them on YouTube - you could see them in my favourites list there.

3. My entry was actually shot at 24fps (on "ones" because of the fast motion of the trees and rocks) but I'm so used to animating on "twos" (12fps) and rusty that I just couldn't get the timing right - so the published movie you watched is actually set to play at 20fps. It's a cheat but I was rushed.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Congratulations everyone!! I can't wait to start making my entry - I arleady have an idea!

Re: The Animation Challenge

The board sports challenge brought out some cool animations!  Stan, your entry was especially awesome!  Too bad you couldn't complete it.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Aiwha, if you'd like to post it here as-is I can give you some feedback (and others might find it inspirational) but it shouldn't be part of the official challenge since everyone else has a one-week time limit.

That said, you absolutely are allowed to shoot something new with the same model(s). We'll have to rely on the honour system in this case because no one wants to have to start putting mod elements in these things.

Sound fair?

Re: The Animation Challenge

I totally agree.
I'll maybe make another video if I have time...
