Re: What was the last movie you watched?
There Will Be Blood
I guess it wasn't that bad, but I really can't say that I liked it. I felt like there wasn't any story, and that some of the scenes just ambled along without much of a point. Spoiler: There is a scene in which Daniel Plainview and H.W. (what did his son's initials actually stand for?) were camping at night, and the only thing that the scene established was that Mr. Sunday beat his daughter if she didn't pray. This fact is only mentioned once more in the film in passing, and nothing ever comes of it. I felt like most of the movie was like that. ]
And why did they have to call it "There Will Be Blood?" I was expecting a lot of blood from a movie that's rated R for violence, and has a title like that. But there was a surprising lack of it. The book it was based on was called "Oil!" and I think that would have been a much better, more fitting title.
I did like how the filmmakers captured the feel of the early 1900 hundreds, but I think I would rather watch a documentary about the history of the oil business. I do think that Daniel Day-Lewis made a really good performance, and was worthy of the Academy Award that he won, but it just saddens me that this movie was nominated for Best Picture and 3:10 To Yuma was not.
Never So Few
Quite a good film. I'm surprised that it hasn't been remade by now.
