Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

It's extremely difficult to create a thrilling story when everyone already knows the outcome.

This doesn't excuse the fact that the prequels are bad. In fact, it only reinforces the argument that they didn't need to be made.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

I think it's an opinion to say that the prequils were bad; I only said that was my opinion, not if it actually  was/wasn't. I definitely think the prequils needed to be made, however, just executed much better. I don't think the prequils bad, nor the OT, but I just think people get too critical with it, instead of looking at the time frame of when it was created, and who Lucas was targeting.

That being said, I absolutely cannot stand The Clone Wars. I agree with what all of Max Butcher has to say on that one.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

I personally love the Clone Wars. Mightn't be very good, but it's very entertaining indeed! And that, in my opinion, counts for a lot.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

I only like the Original Star Wars Trilogy the most, especially The Empire Strikes Back. Like most people who've watched Star Wars.

I think with the way it's going: I think of the Star Wars Franchise as a huge cash cow, I mean the comics don't interest me, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones are the worst Star Wars Prequels by far. The more recent Clone Wars series annoys me, some of the video games linking to Star Wars are terrible and George Lucas has lost his mind.

To be honest, I think anything Star Wars that's not had George Lucas' bloody hand prints all over it is awesome. Take Knights of the Old Republic as an example, BioWare did a good job with the writting for that game. Whereas The Force Unleashed, well that just went downhill as soon as the sequel hit the shelves.

Have you ever read any of the Star Wars Tales collections? They're probably my favorite product of the whole universe. They aren't canon, but they have some really creative takes on the canon as well as expanded universe short stories that are very well done. I remember one that was from the point of view of a Storm Trooper boarding the Tantive IV that was pretty fantastic. I haven't read any of them recently though; they stopped making them in 2005.

heh: those SW Tales are hilarious! Have you read the one about Darth Maul as a kid?

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that re-releasing all the movies in 3D is quite unnessesary. In my opinion, Lucas just wants to keep milking the cow, but people are telling him the cow's been dried up a while ago.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

Meh, at least we get to see the original trilogy in a theatre.

And in 3D. But we'll have to wait 3 years to see what we actually want to see. We first have to wait for all this 3D prequel !@#$ to pass.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

I loved the Star Wars Tales! The most memorable one to me was the one where Han Solo and Chewbacca passed through a wormhole and

and ended up on earth. Han died in the crash and Chewbacca went on to inspire the legends of Sasquatch. Hans remains were later found by none other than Indiana Jones(!) who commented on the similarity in appearance between the two.

Pure fanservice, but fun.

Yeah - if you want to watch Episode IV (my personal favourite) you have to wait until 2015!! By that time, we'll have shoelaces that can tie themselves, and hover-cars, and colonies on Mars, and god knows what else!! I'll be 21 by then!! Heck, it was announced in 2010 that Episode I would be released in 2012! So even if you want to see Jar Jar Binks and Anakin in 3D, you have to wait for two years. They probably haven't even started converting them to 3D yet! They just want to announce their re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release so that no-one buys their re-re-re-re-re-re-release! Smart move, now no-one is going to buy your Blu-Ray release (which was announced in January and isn't due until November) because in 2018 (or later) your probably going to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release them to Home Video 3D!! And Zod knows what he's going to do after that! He's probably never going to make another movie again...

I mean, what kind of a person would announce a project before he had even started work on it....

Episode 7 is being released May 27, 2021 from what I hear.

I think that George Lucas thinks the time is slipping away for 3D films, and wants to make sure that the saga is in 3D before anything else happens (Which it will). Honestly, I quite liked Episode 1; not because of stupid Jar Jar, or Anakin, but I like how the story forms out in it, and it also explains how Anakin started his training (Though, they could have polished up a bit on that part).

I think that Episode 2 screwed up all of the prequels. What sane person wants to see a whiny Anakin lose his temper fifty times in a day? And, based on that episode, the Clone Wars began because the Jedi were trying to search for the bounty hunter who tried to kill Padme. And all this time I thought the Chancellor was in control of the galaxy. IMO, Episode 3 saved the prequels from an even more destructive doom then it would have been. People love big booms with awesome lightsaber fights. I guess people also love Anakin being burnt. I don't think that the story was poor in Ep. 3, but I think that the dialog was terrible-especially from, you guessed it, Hayden Christensen. Though the Emperor was great mini/tongue .

That's my opinion on the prequel trilogy. Feel free to bash me all you want with your prequel hate.[/sarcasm]

Anybody who tells you that they know there's going to be an Episode 7 and/or a release date is either lying to you or ignorant.

Agreed. I just posted from what I read.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

Ah, a star wars thread...and 90% of the people have come here to bash it....sad. I could go on for several days so I'll be brief.

Original trilogy:Epic Win. The Visual Effects for the time make my drop saying "how the heck did they manage this 30 years ago?!"

Prequels:Epic Win. Not as good as the OT but that's because you simply can't beat the Originals. Not George's fault. Cinematograhpy was actually better than the Orignal trilogy

Expanded Universe:No one have actually said anything about the EU, but I love it. But of course it's not "George's star wars" I enjoy the EU.

Clone wars:Everyone that watches the clone wars either watches it just to say how horrible it is or complains if there is no action. People don't seem to understand that you can't fit the equivalant of a full movie into 20 minutes, it's simply not possible to have both a lot of action and a lot of politics in the same 20 minutes. And also no one appreciates the amazing 3D animation, it's some of the best thats out there to date. So there's things in in that could be better but it could also be much, much worse. So I like it

All in all, I think Star Wars is one of the greatest motion pictures ever made. If not THE greatest. I love it. Period. About the only thing that competes with it in my mind is LOTR

Well, there you go - it's settled. The debate is over.

Re: STAR WARS - Discussion Thread

Actually, I think the final outcome of the Prequel Trilogies is entirely Lucas's fault. I dont think the prequels are bad, and I understand that the Original Trilogy was so good that its hard to come close to them...but I do think the prequels could have been a lot better. I dont know how though (although the dialogue could have been improved greatly, in addition to the acting). Maybe Lucas should have just not made them...

Honestly, I would love to write long orgasmic passages about how brilliant 'Star Wars' is as a whole...but I dont think its brilliant. Sure, Episode 4 is one of my favourite movies of all time - and the ultimate Sci-Fi movie (yes, better than '2001', 'Star Trek 2', 'Blade Runner' and 'Back to the Future'), but Lucas has since made many stupid decisions that may not be the worst things in existence, but taint my respect for the franchise.

And quite frankly, its more fun to talk about the not as good stuff. This is the 'Discussion' thread, not the 'appreciation' thread.

In my opinion:
Best Movie: The Return of the Jedi
Worst: The Phantom Menace
Best Video Game: KOTOR (Best Video Game Evar!!!)
Best Comics: Knights of the Old Republic

What do you think about the upcoming MMO?

I disagree with you. Surely you have to say that Attack of the Clones was the worst. I mean, just look at the film's title!
