With all due respect, your mods need to grow up, but first they need to get their heads out their behinds.
Good point, the mods were definitely the ones filling a thread with nonsensical ramblings that failed to form any sort of cohesive story, and much of the time didn't even satisfy basic rules of English grammar.
I'll save you the time it would take to type the response to this by saying that while fun is good and great, it would be nice if people would consider that this is a film-making site. To call something like that thread collaborative or building a fine sense of community might be a good indicator of why people get frustrated with this community and its tastes. The thread was filled ten pages with scatological humor, the constant killing of the main character, and half of the people fighting to reverse what the previous posters did. Meanwhile the forums devoted to helping people learn to make brickfilms are left largely neglected. If the community is devoted to creating and helping others create films, a pathetic thread like that does nothing to help the people be more creative, unless you consider creativity avoiding every obstacle in the way of telling a story and making use of constant deus ex machina. It wasn't collaborative, unless the definition of collaboration somehow involves people making vaguely tangential posts in the same thread. As for bringing the community together, unless you wanted a community whose main goal is to create silly stories, what's the point of bringing them together to do just that?
It's not like we killed the thread at it's inception. Believe me, the thought certainly crossed my mind, and likely the minds of other mods who have, like me, seen threads go exactly the same way this one did. We didn't close it. We could have, but we didn't, because: first, we knew someone would throw a fit, and second, we thought maybe it would be nice to see if the community could come together and make that thread into something worth having on the site. We gave it a chance. Of course, your post is jumbled enough I can't really understand what you are mad about to begin with. You seem to think that because it went decently for the first few pages, the mods are pricks for closing it when it turned to utter tripe. You insult the mods and then immediately agree with what they did. That makes no sense at all, but it should be apparent by now that I'm not happy to see it. We work hard to try to keep you people from cluttering the site with things like that for a reason. We aren't here to give you jollies; we're here to make sure the site continues to be the best resource for budding brickfilmers to learn the hobby. Things like this distract from that purpose, and so we close them.
I didn't call for the thread to be closed. I didn't close it. Nonetheless, I agree with the decision wholeheartedly, and I get really tired of listening to people whine about how whatever special interests they have are being killed by the moderators. We don't just do this stuff because we like to hear the complaints. We don't want to be killjoys. There are more important matters in the grand scheme of things than a nonsensical story thread, and we're going to do what we think it takes to promote the betterment of the hobby. Take it or leave it.
