Controlling fill light can be tricky....

That was great. How did you do the chroma key?

How did you manage to distinguish the greenscreen from the green floor and window panes

I used an AE plug in called Key Light to key the background and a rough mask on what became my foreground layer and background layer of the original shot, the mask is reversed between the fore and background layers. I'm also using a lot of nested compositions (sequences) to facilitate my effects (you cant see most of them in the pic below, i close them once I've nested them)

I think that might help explain it...

Glad you guys are liking my stuff mini/smile

Nice setup.
I like the shot a lot.

Gareth Pugh has kindly allowed me to post this from The CABG forums:

My depiction of the City of Noktow from Agatean Nights, made using the software Cinema 4D over a period of around 4 days. This is a dingy, misty city miles from anywhere. The air is thick with water vapour. It's really cool. mini/tongue

Excuse the bad picture quality, I took it with a camera off a screen as it hasn't rendered yet.

I have to say, Gareth's getting better all the time. AN's gonna be sweet.

Interesting, but not LEGO-enough for me. That's obviously personal preference, though.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Can I post a shot or do I have to wait?
EDIT: No one seems to care. Here is the shot:

I would try adding more distance between the fore and backgrounds. The blur that you have there now helps a lot too.

Ok, here's what I've been working on all week...

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Yanzl, I think the see-through bricks look odd.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Yanzl - nice shot. The background actually does seem to have a good amount of depth. The farther back you can push those buildings, the better.

Mtnbiker, this is awesome, really!
I love the lightning and the whole style of it. I'm very amazed to see your film!

I added some buildings and moved everything back.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Wow, that looks much better.

That is loads better. It bothers me how you can see the studs on top of the buildings though.

That's pretty sweet, Yanzl.

Re: Works-in-Progress Post and Critique

Yanzl, I think the gray and red buildings nearest the foreground are a little distracting, they don't blend with the softer, pastel colors of the original buildings.  The shot looks nice but the horizon isn't obscured in the updated version so I think it looks a little odd to have that much sky.  I don't know where this is supposed to be set, but one solution to create a simple horizon would be to add an ocean behind the skyscrapers.
