Re: How to Post Your Film

well, i was trying out a new compression and it was fine until I uploaded to youtube, so now the stopmotion is about 10X too fast and the voices are all out of sync. this happened with another film that I uploaded today, but I did'nt know it had, until I had submitted it to the BIM film directory. WHAT SHOULD I DO?? can you delete films of yours? GAHH!

so, if anyone on the film review panel reads this, if you find two postings of a film called, "joe gets malaria" then the earlier one  has a dead link (because I deleted the video from youtube) and the newer one is the one with the real link to the film. is this okay? mini/dizzy

Re: How to Post Your Film

Done. Just PM me in the future if something like this happens again. Or better yet, check the link before you submit. mini/blankexpression

EDIT: The "working" YouTube link isn't. The video is set on private and is therefore unwatchable. You might want to fix that.

ok its not on private anymore ( I just put it on private because it was really late at night and the video was still processing and I didn't want anyone to see it in case it was another glitch. so I put it on private until I had a chance to watch it and make sure that it was fine.)

by the way, thanks for fixing the problem

EDIT: just wondering, could a mod attach this thread to the film? http://www.bricksinmotion.com/forums/to … s-malaria/
if so then tank you. it was the thread that was created for the glitched video. thanks, i really appreciate it. mini/smile

Re: How to Post Your Film

I looked at the Films section, and I saw my film "Do You Like Waffles in LEGO" not on the home page but in the films directory, and it said "Overall: 5" "Story: 0" "Animation: 0" "Cinematography: 0". Unless I really think good about myself too much, I don't think I did that bad. If that is a mistake, could someone fix it?

If you're worried about the '0's, don't be; there are so many films currently needing reviewed that, unless the film is outstanding, the Review Panel are just giving films an Overall rating, so that they can get them available to watch.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

I'm having this same problem too! Why can't I upload an image!

Re: How to Post Your Film

@topitmonkeydog: Sorry, but there's no way to add a forum link to a submitted film at present aside from editing the site's code manually... which we're not going to do for obvious reasons.

@Chris W.: Sorry... don't know why I didn't see this before. As Genzarata said, due to the massive backlog of films the review panel is struggling with right now, we've temporarily stopped giving ratings to non-recommended films other than the overall rating. Your film didn't get "0s" for ratings; rather, the "0s" are showing up because those ratings are missing. It's actually impossible to get a zero as a rating (one is as low as they go).

In the future... and this is directed at everyone... if you've got a question regarding reviews, please don't hesitate to PM me. That's what I'm here for.

I would like to know why some films aren't being reviewed? Like, films with an overall rating of 6 should be recommended because some recommended films have an overall rating of 4. Like, 'Tim & fRED Halloween Special 2' should be recommended if a film like 'The Four Season's' is. But, it's not, along with a handfull of other films. I just want to know if this will be permanant, or if those films won't be enjoyed by a generally large audience.

Re: How to Post Your Film

The review guidelines were revamped at the beginning of last month to attempt to curtail some of our panel members' overly generous reviewing without altering the basic demarcation for recommendation. Your assertion that a "handfull (sic)" of average films were given "all films" status in recent weeks is telling us that it worked. If there's a recent example of a film you feel was judged unfairly on its own merits, I'll be happy to check it out, but comparing to a single review done before the revamp isn't comparing apples to oranges.

Also... it helps us out considerably if you take the time to get the titles right. "tim & fRED Halloween Special 2" got an 8/10 overall rating and was recommended. I'm assuming you were referring to "tim & fRED Thanksgiving Special 2", which only got a 5/10. And there's no film in the directory called "The Four Season's (sic)." I'm guessing you meant "Seasons."

For those who are wondering, the current requirements for a film to earn recommended status are as follows:

Review Panel guidelines wrote:

Recommended Film: As a general rule, any film with an overall rating of 6 or higher should be given “recommended” status. Exceptions can be made in the case of films that have vast discrepancies in quality between their various aspects. For example, a film with excellent animation and cinematography but a complete lack of a story and awful sound design could earn a 6 overall rating but fail to be recommended. In these situations, use your personal discretion; if a wide variety of the site's members will be glad they watched the film in question, recommend it. The large majority of films with an overall rating of 6 (and all films with a rating of 7 or higher) should be recommended.

All Films: As a general rule, any film with an overall rating of 5 or lower should be given “all films” status. However, exceptions can be made in the case of films that have vast discrepancies in quality between their various aspects. For example, a film with poor animation and cinematography but excellent voice acting, script, and comic timing could be recommended with an overall rating of 5. Again, use discretion. Very few films with a rating of 5 should be recommended, and none with a rating of 4 or below.

Re: How to Post Your Film

Sorry to *bump* again... But I always thinking that you need more reviewers.

Why LegOpinions is not a reviewer? I don't want to offend anyone, but he's actually better than some of the Panel's Reviewers.

I was disappointed by the shortness of my septemberfest entry review... ''Mouth''

Here's the Graeme Allen's review:

A fun little short that handled the contest's silent theme rather well. The film's punchline could have been taken a bit farther, perhaps, but it was still an amusing surprise.

And here's the Onion's review:

Without a doubt this, in my opinion, deserves to win Septemberfest. I have recently started to take much liking to LGFB Studios after his recent releases like Mr. Bad Frame and The Man of All Leisure, and was quietly excited about this release. I honestly loved this, with witty humor, fantastic facial expressions, this film really shows how to make a silent film.

The beginning I must admit was a bit iffy, with some awkward framing and jumpy animation, however it quickly caught my attention with some nice arm animation, and the character himself made me smile. The plot is simplistic but has nice twists and ideas, such as the original idea of drawn facial expressions, as apposed to bad edited-in mouth animation. I especially enjoyed the last bit with the artist.

Technically the film is about normal, with nothing striking but nothing really that under average. Some ups and downs really, such as the afore mentioned odd framing techniques, and the facial aspects. The lighting is a non-applicable due to the effect, but nevertheless it creates a nice enough atmosphere. Animation is quite good, and overall you can see even more improvements. LGFB certainly has shown a spectacular jump from amateur to, once again in my opinion, highly respected brickfilmer.

Sound: 4/10
Music: 7/10
Animation: 6/10
Effects: N/A
Plot: 9/10
Cinematography: 6/10
Overall: 26/50 (Due to the N/A category)

Overall I'd say personally this deserves to win Septemberfest, with it's clever theme adaption and fabulous originality. It does have some close competitors, but this is just something special. A big congratulations to LGFB on his achievement and I will happily look forward to more.

The LegOpinion's review is better, in my opinion mini/tongue So, I think that's unfair... Mr. Onion has always done the best reviews.

Re: How to Post Your Film

At times, a review should be short and sweet, not long and tedious. As a reader, I felt too obligated to read Onion's review and ended up reading half of it. Sometimes just giving a short review with enough on the subject matter is good.

That being said, I feel it's awesome how Onion puts quite some work and a lot of detail in his reviews and also agrees he should be in the "Review Panel"

Thanks for clearing that up, Noodle. I thought that films had to have at least a 5 for it to be reviewed. I'll keep this in mind for the future mini/smile .

Re: How to Post Your Film

What are the dimensions of your image, and what kind of image is it (what are the three letters after the dot)?

Re: How to Post Your Film

Probably not the best example, LGFB; of course you're going to prefer the review that's more complimentary of your film. I don't really have a problem with Graeme's review... remember, it's not supposed to be for you, but for the random guy who stumbles across the site on his iPhone during his lunch break. Is it a bit more brief than mine would have been? Perhaps. But it's a two-and-a-half minute, slapstick, silent film. You can't exactly write a grad thesis on it.

But point taken. When I first read LegOpinions' application five months ago (off-topic: since when are we calling him "Onion?"), I opted to pass on it due to some readability issues. However, now that the other reviewers we'd recently added haven't worked out, we're starting to come to the painful realization that we may have to accept some misplaced consonants in exchange for something resembling productivity.

Nothing's definite one way or the other, here, but I agree with you that it's probably worth my time to reopen this dossier.

That's only an example. Mouth is not my best film and this is not the best review. I just wanted to show you that Mr. LegOpinions is able to provide constructive criticism. I can give you others examples, if you want.

You mean that Onion (Yeah... Onion!) could be in the review panel?

Re: How to Post Your Film

Here's a question. My first brickfilm submitted, "Merlin's Robot," was submitted on Dec. 20, 2010. I've submitted a number of films since then, but none of them have been accepted or rejected. Is this the normal amount of time it usually takes or are things just slow?

(Also, I made this film around the time when everyone was making the THAC films, which seem to be already in the directory. Yet my film is not. mini/dizzy )

EDIT: Never mind, I just found out that Merlin's Robot has been accepted. None of the other films have been though. What's the usual amount of time it takes?

Re: How to Post Your Film

Hey I have another question:
Say I have a brickfilm series and I would like to have one topic in releases with links for all of them but also individually link them to the directory? Like all of the films are attached to one topic? How do I do that? I can't even really start a topic in the Releases section so should I just submit the first one to the directory and forums and then each subsequent episode is not entered into the forums but just the directory, and I edit the posts to add new episodes? mini/confused

EDIT: Also, is there a way to credit that two people directed the same film? Do I just write both people as director? mini/delirium
