Topic: Explosions and Fire Effects

This video is another test using Final Cut Express 4. I know that it is not one of my best animations, referring to the smoothness of the movements, as I have focused on special effects. This time I wanted to do more advanced effects using the Chroma Key technique and effects of explosion, fire... I hope you like it! mini/smile

Re: Explosions and Fire Effects

Well, the special effects might be good themselves, but they don't seem to fit in with Lego. The smoke could fit, but I would reccomend Lego fire pieces (they would probably look good lit up) and transparent pieces for the breaking windows. To make the flames look like they're flickering, rotate one piece 180 degrees *take picture*, rotate 180 *take*, rotate *take*, and so on. I like the camera shaking, though.

Re: Explosions and Fire Effects

Compositing wasn't very convincing, but not bad for FC. In particular, the sharp edge that marked the bottom of the "breaking window" clip was plainly visible, and a number of the flame and spark clips didn't track properly in the crazier "handheld" shots. Granted, that's real tough to do without a motion tracker, but it looked like some of them didn't move at all while the camera went crazy. Again... not bad for FC, but needs some work.

Am I looking at the same video you guys are seeing?  Because I'm not seeing the "realistic"ness that you're talking about.

Re: Explosions and Fire Effects

It was good! You have space to improve though.

Re: Explosions and Fire Effects

Hi HarryandBilly, nice little test you have there. You might want to check your white balance on your camera, though. It looked like it was on "automatic", as the color kept changing. If you have a "manual" setting for your camera, I suggest you turn set to manual. That'll stop the flickering color changes. But, since this is an effects test, I'm sure you weren't focused on that.

The effects seemed kind of over the top. I think you could make it more believable if you didn't use so many. But nice test though.

The effects by themselves are realistic to real life, but not realistic to Lego (Legoistic). I don't think its Legoistic.
