Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Adventureland

This is probably the film I ejoyed the most. Ever.
Jesse Eisenberg has gone from being nobody to being one of my favorite actors. I first saw him in Zombieland, but I didn't really care much about him (I saw it 1AM), but when I saw The Social Network a couple of days ago I noticed how awesome he is, and he's great in Adventureland as well. Kristen Stewart was great in this film too, and she really doesn't deserve the ammount of hate she gets because of Twilligt, she's a good actress. There were a lot of great biroles, but I won't bother writing about them too, except for the girl that played Lisa P. She was pretty hawt.
The soundtrack was really great, and I've been listening to the opening song "!@#$%^& of Young" too much the past days.
I think Greg Mottola did a great job with this film, and I am happy they didn't do it the way it was originally planned.
Seth Rogen was supposed to be a co-director, and Michael Cera was going to play the main character, but something happened and
Seth Rogen left and they switched Michael Cera for Eisenberg, which I think was a good thing.
"Adventureland" could have easily become another mediocre teen comedy about sex, but they made it something special. It's a comedy, sure, but I love it just as much as a drama film as a comedy. This movie was great, and you have to see it. It's a pitty it didn't get as popular as perhaps Superbad, which was also directed by Mottola, but it's too late to do anything about that now.
If you haven't seen this film, watch it. It's great.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I haven't actually seen, nor read Fight Club - and I don't really feel compelled to either. But I've heard, from people that loved the film, that Fight Club isn't a good book.

I think if you see the movie first and then read the book it won't be good. That's my biggest concern. I had the same with Choke, the movie was the exact same so the book wasn't that interesting. It's probably better to read the book first and then watch the movie.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I took a look at the book in a store once and the writing style turned me off immediately.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I like more dark and/or banal kind of books. Especially Charles Bukowski, he's my favourite writer.

Kick-Ass
Well that was damn awesome.

Eyes without a Face
It was a great film. I really loved the cinematography in some of the scenes. Great directing, and the ending was quite good.

Blood of the Beast
I feel this is a really good documentary. The execution and style of it was quite interesting, also the editing. There was some pretty graphic stuff, but yeah, it was done really well.

Further untruths will not be tolerated.

So I got around to watching Gojira (1954) today. I really liked it. It had a reasonable amount of depth to the plot and the actors were competent (I wasn't a huge fan of the leading woman's acting, but it didn't ruin the film or anything). The effects were actually pretty cool; I don't really feel like they were as campy as some people make them out to be. Looking at a far less ambitious American film, Creature from the Black Lagoon (also made in 1954), I feel like Godzilla beat it soundly in the visual department, and likely in every other aspect too, if I'm being honest. I've never watched the American version, although I probably will someday just for sake of comparison. That may have allowed me to be a little more open to the seriousness of the film. The Japanese version was certainly an engaging drama though, definitely worth a watch.

TCOTY's praise is deserved.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

IMO Fight Club is really overrated. When I saw it, it was honestly nothing great like alot of people make it out to be.

Funny how anyone can say that about anything.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

True.

Anyway, I recently watched The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The King's Speech. Both were very good.

Inception

Overhyped heist movie, but I find the concept of dabbling in a person's dream intriguing and the zero gravity sequences were impressive.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I loved Fight Club as both a book and a movie. I saw the movie first and was startled a little by how similar the book was. Then again, the movie shifted the themes and changed the ending, and in my opinion improved the story overall.

Considering how minimalistic the book was, it was no surprise that some scenes were actually expanded upon, such as the conversations between Marla and the protagonist over who got what support groups when. The movie also wisely chose to cut out the mechanic character, who sort of came out of nowhere late in the book.

Some of the things in the book also became more hilarious when on-screen. Edward Norton beating himself up in front of his boss may well be one of my favorite scenes of all time.

Made in Britain

Tim Roth's first big role came in the form of a swastika-tattooed skinhead in a British TV movie in 1982. It may have been a straightforward, no-frills affair, but I really enjoyed it. Tim Roth seethes with sneering unrest, angry at the world and everyone in it, as he slowly but surely uses up all of his 'second chances.'

My favorite part didn't involve him leering, screaming, or otherwise acting out, however, but simply pausing and staring into a store window at an idealized British living room, complete with a mannequin family of four. It represents a phony ideal, and immediately afterwards he screams and charges off cursing, but one wonders if, perhaps for a moment, he didn't rue the self-destructive path he'd set upon.

Midnight run
Great movie, I loved it.
It was rated R for swearing, as the 'F' word was said 119 times over the course of the film.
