Re: What was the last movie you watched?

28 Weeks Later

I thought this was going to blow monkey chunks; surprisingly, however, it did not. While it may not have been as good as the first film (WTF, stalking zombie?), it was still a decent flick that was pretty nicely shot.

It also had Jeremy Renner in a hero role, which was funny, because right after that I watched

The Town

Jeremy Renner was particularly great, and I liked seeing Pete Postlethwaite, man his character was screwed up. I liked the movie overall, even if I nearly busted a gut when Affleck said 'underoos' during a sad story.

I also saw True Grit in the theatre on Christmas. Great acting not only from Bridges, but from Matt Damon (who was hi-larious), and particularly newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, who did a helluva job. Just a great movie all around.

Finally got to see it, and it was worth the wait. The movie was fantastic. Great acting, I loved it.

Also, it was hilarious when Jeff Bridges kicked the Indian kids.

My favorite part might've been when he was simply getting off a horse. 'Twas one of the funniest things I've seen all year in the cinema.

Edit:

Oh yes, I also saw Inception. On first watch, it was entertaining enough, though I may want to see it a second time to fully solidify my opinion.

The "totem" thing was a bit unrealistic, because who picks up a dice and remembers exactly how heavy it is?

I believe that what he does with the dice is throwing it, and in the real world only one number should always come up. Well, taht's what I think.
Anyway, last movies I've seen:
Donnie Darko
Nice, the second part was better than the first, but it's an overrated movie.
Blow Up
Well, at the end of the movie you just want to throw the TV out of the window (Yes, it's an exaggeration)...Not bad, but it wasn't amazing or anything. Overrated by the critics.
Il buono, Il brutto, Il cattivo
I never saw it complete from start to end. Neither this time happened, but what I saw was damn good. Surely entertaining.
L'armata Brancaleone
Oh god, I loved it. I highly recommend this movie. Good ol' Italian cinema. Hell, you don't find many good italian movies anymore. Sure there are still some, but they're much less than in the past years.

Personally I loved Blow-Up as an atmospheric film about a dude trying to find his muse, I can easily see how someone might not find it that enjoyable though.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Birds

Part of one of my favourite Christmas Gifts along with my QK9K and my Kodak Sports-Cam - The Alfred Hitchcock Box set. I decided to start from the right and work my way along the box set, even though its not in chronological order and I cant be bothered to re-arrange it.

The build-up is absolutely incredible. We all know the birds will come, we all know that the house the mother is exploring has been attacked, and we all know all hell is about to break loose. Yet it still kept me on the edge of my seat. Sure, the birds are obviously either mechanical or yellow-screened, as is much of the scenery - yet the final shot and the Gods-Point-of-View shot are incredible works of matte painting, which is a lost art in my opinion.

Sometimes the yellow-screening is a bit unnecessary such as when the school children are running away - the effect could have been achieved just as easily and more effective if the children were in the tracking shots they took. And the ending was a bit abrupt considering that there was another 10 mins to go in the original script. Plus the drunk screaming "ITS THE END OF THE WORD!!" was hilariously over the top - I know he's drunk, but even for a drunk person that line was cheesy. Plus, an elderly Bird expert just HAPPENS to walk in? But, who am I to question Hitchcock?

Man, The Birds scared the crap outta me when I was young. Re-watching it older, the acting was a lot cheesier, but I could appreciate the film's technical ambition.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I recently watched Rear Window and the original Cape Fear, they were both really good. Rear Window was way better, though.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Armageddon

It was good, just so un-realistic. Like when the armadillo jumped that canyon, what are the chances of really landing on all 6 wheels? mini/confused
It also took a while to get into it too, half the film was the preparing for the mission, but it was still a good 'saving the world' film. I think it came about equal with the core.

Flipped
I love this movie. Great story, a little weird, but it's still great.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

So last night I was re-watching Inglourious !@#$%^&*. I really think it's my favorite Tarantino movie after Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, closely followed of course by the Bride films. It's amazing how long the conversations are in this movie, yet how much tension they instill (and how effective it is when there are quick cuts in the middle to something outrageous). The acting in this movie is also just brilliant. From Christoph Waltz, to Mélanie Laurent, to the guy who played Stiglitz (whose expression during the whole scene in the basement was freaking gold), everyone in the cast shined.

Gulliver's Travels
You may disagree with me, but I found this film very entertaining and very well done technically wise. (Although that robot could have had better CGI.)
Jack Black's performance was hilarious, and I just found this film very good. I loved the "War" music number at the end. mini/cat

Pretty good, yet underrated Disney film.

The Departed
That's gotta be the best film I've watched in ages.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

^Yes!

Deliverance
I remember seeing this as a kid, I liked it then and I liked it now. It's a very effective thriller because it feels so real.

The Untouchables
Liked it, but I was expecting a bit more. But it was good, I didn't like the music though, I feel like it could have been a lot better if they would have used groovier music.

Taxi Driver
One of my all-time favourite movies.
