Just a quick test.
No Dalek, now sound, just simply the effect.
Well, to me it's less than considerable...
I may find a way to do this effect on-set.

I think the laser is too slow. But the size was ok, I guess. I've never seen doctor who so I can't really tell.
I'd agree with MPfist0. While the Dalek laser is slow to begin with, yours was a bit too slow. Otherwise, it looked great. Next, you might try adding more movement in the minifigure, i.e. he reacts to the laser and tries to get away before it hits him.

Thanks, but I have my own dalek design (albeit similar) that I came up with in 2005, and I'm quite pleased with it especially as I had no inspiriation or anything. ![]()

Yup the laser was a little too slow but overall the test is really done well.
