Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Actually, PSMove is better than Wii, to me at least, because it's basically the Wii with better, much better graphic levels.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Yes, because graphics make a game. Totally. mini/rolleyes

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Maybe if the motion control is better, sure....but the graphics?! mini/confused

I mean, the Wii graphics are not bad. You can see clearly what's going on, and if you use a HDMI input the graphics look pretty good on games like Mario Kart. They dont in any way suck, and the graphics on a PS3 are only the stunning quality fan-boys use to counter logical arguments if you have a 30 inch LCD TV with HDMI.

Why are people always sold by the pretty images? Graphics are a bonus, not the make-or-break factor.

I really hate how in movies they just madly mash the keyboard buttons and things happen, like hacking into a computer. Not how it works, sorry.

I got xbox live for christmas, I'm pretty much only playing Halo: Reach, but it's fun, even if I'm not that good. XBL: ForlornCreature

Really? Dude, what's your Gamertag? My XBOX Live just ran out, but when I renew it I can continue playing online! Maybe we can create a party or something sometime...

My gamertag is DerTarchin.

That is true, but if you take the fun of using the Wiimote in COD: WaW, combine that with PS3-level graphics, that's awesome pwnage.

The only problem with this statement, is the "fun" in COD on Wii and all other motion platforms.

I'll apologize in advance, I'm fully aware I'm a PS3 fanboy.

The Wii doesn't support native HDMI output.

These are screenshots from the upcoming Uncharted 3, they're all taken from inside the games engine, which means none of them are pre-rendered images, that's how the game will look whilst playing.

These are screenshots from Mario Kart Wii, also taken with the ingame engine.

Better graphics aren't always going to make or break the experience, but they sure as hell can make it a lot better. The waterfall in the second Mario Kart screenshot is just a texture. I know that games like Mario Kart and Wii Sports are supposed to be cartoony, but the textures and bump mapping in those games is terrible.

And the motion control genre is dying already, every decent Wii game that comes out now barely uses it.

I have an Xbox and a Wii, I'm not so unreasonable as to rip on another system without even owning it. I like the wii, it's great, but it just feels like theres something missing. Also, knowing that Nintendo are almost 100% financially driven has kind of turned me off of them. I remember reading on Kotaku/Gizmodo/Joystiq that Nintendo was able to manufacture gameboys for just under $9USD while they were on sale for $90-100USD. Sony lost money for every PS3 they sold until they rereleased the slim model last year, so it's not like everyone's evil trying to wring every last cent out of you.

Another reason I'm a sony fanboy is because they have a lot of studios working with them that they let produce whatever they want, even if it means it's a huge financial risk, they let them make whatever they want, and it really shows. Instead of building on popular and reliable franchises, they start something new and make something else that's even more awesome than anything that's been done before. A concept Nintendo would have understood 20 years ago, something that's now completely alien to them.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

The Wii uses a component socket, which is a HDMI lead using phono jack sockets for each input/output

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Yeah, I have an HDMI cable for mine, and it looks quite nice...

But the PS3 graphics are better.

BUT graphics are only a part of it, graphics don't have to be brilliant for a great game

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I hated the remake of Goldeneye. If they were going to slap a title as big as Goldeneye on their game they'd had better live up to the original. It was no better than any current Call of Duty game.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Oh, that's a dissapointment. I had high hopes for it, but I need to try it in order to attain a conclusion for myself.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

It got some pretty high praise from reviewers.

I agree fully with all your points. Graphics can improve a game greatly, but I would still rather a game that provides hours of fun then one with broken controls and dull game-play. I'm not saying the PS3 library just consists of such games, nor am I bashing the system itself. I'm not judging the games without playing them myself - but its just everyone whines about nothing other than the graphics. I've seen people, not you - but other people, saying that the Wii sucks just because of the graphics. Sure, there are other reasons why you can argue that the Wii sucks (3rd party games, lack of catering to hardcore gamers - although why should something suck just because it doesn't cater to you personally? - and the dying genre of motion control technology as 3D comes in - I bet you my soul that the next Playstation/XBOX/Nintendo console will be in 3D) but graphics? I'm not saying people like you, your arguments are logical and reasoned, but I'm saying people who just base a game on the graphics when a game is far more than just imagery.

My previous comment was referring really to the fickle and sheep-like industry we live in today. I know I shouldn't be saying this in a 'Video Game Discussion Topic', but in our incredibly visual society, people judge everything by visual quality alone. Apple releasing products that (overseas) are ridiculously overpriced and at times unessecary....but its nice and shiny! Movies have terrible plots, awful acting, and no thought behind them...but the cinematography and CG are incredible! Justin Bieber hatred comes from his mere appearance, and for some reason fickle 13 year old's faint at the sight of him for his sheer 'sex appeal' (Sure, Bieber has zero talent, but wait and actually hear his songs before you start trolling!)

Oh, and from my experience, every company in the world is 100% Profit-based. Don't think Sony are the saints whom give generously whilst Nintendo are the thieves. Sure, Nintendo are greedy money-grabbers just like every non-charity company in the world, but dont forget Sony does about a billion more things other than consoles and shamelessly steals money in other areas of their worldwide company. What they lose in one area, they gain in the next.

Haha, slap. As in slappies.
Anyway, I've played the original game and have seen trailers, and it looks like a big improvement.
