Topic: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

Ok. I recently acquired Pinnacle 14 for Xmas so I was working with the FPS. I don't know the speed but I want your guys opinions on my FPS. Here are two different videos. I want your guys opinions (especially expierienced brickfilmers) on which FPS is best. Should I use #1 or #2? Should I use #1 for walking and #2 for hand movements? I want your opinions. But PLEASE no remarks on anything but the FPS! Thanks guys!

#1: Fast 30 FPS

#2: Slower 15 FPS

Give me your opinions on FPS.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

Well, I would go on about flicker etc. but you said not too, so I won't.  TBH both seem too fast, though #2 is definitely better.  Before I get to in depth, what are the frame rates for each video?

I agree, the second is better.

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

Let me check frame rates. I'll get back to you guys. Don't worry. There are still voices to be added to the sequence.

And the second video is 15 FPS

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

I would say the 2nd is better but the animation could still use some smoothing up.  Are you using the frame capturing tool in Pinnacle?  How are you getting 15fps?

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

I'm just setting the frames at 00.02 in project preferences and sliding in the frames. Frame capture?

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

The 2nd was better for most of it, but 30 fps would be better for the talking section.

By frame capture I mean the newly added stop-motion capture ability.

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

After clicking this link,

select the Importing from File-based Devices and Photo Cameras link.

Currently this animation tool works with webcams and some other cameras.  It is still being developed, though, so hopefully Pinnacle will make it compatible with more cameras.

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

what does it do exactly?

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

The second video is better, but takes a little less pictures.

Not necessarily.  It all depends on how much you move the object that you are animating each time you take a new frame.  Many people make good films using 12fps.  You have to adjust your animation to the frame rate.  For 12fps, you would move the object in slightly larger increments than 15fps in order to still have the speed of animation that was made during 15fps (if that makes any sense).

So your saying what?

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

I'm saying that 12fps can be just as good as 15 as long as you animate according to your frame rate.  For a higher frame rate you will want to move the figure in smaller increments.  But for lower frame rates, like 12, you would want to move your figure in larger increments.  Doing this will give you better results.  The tests you have at the beginning of this thread wouldn't look good at 12fps.  They would be way too fast.

Re: Pinnacle 14 FPS Test

So which one should I use 12 or 15?

Also, could you give me some examples of people who use 12 FPS in their films?
