Topic: Laser Gun Tests

So for my upcoming film, I found myself needing laser blast effects. I will be updating this first post as I make new tests. Any and all feedback is welcome, and greatly appreciated. All of them are made and will be made using GIMP.

TEST 1:

TEST 2:
Wow been a long time. MEGA-BUMP Started brickfilming again, here's a new test. Is the speed good, are the effects themselves good? I want enough variety between the palefaces (green laser blast) and the good guys, I think this is a pretty good achievement of that goal. Tell me what you think!

TEST 3:
Again been a long time, this is the last test before I start filming (but by no means the last test). It also includes a few things not related to the laser blasts, but just animation and whatnot overall, namely matching animation with dialogue. Comments and criticism welcome and appreciated mini/smile

Re: Laser Gun Tests

Too slow, and there's no scene re-lighting. The glow of the blast itself looks good, though.

Re: Laser Gun Tests

Yes, I have gotten the too slow comment on youtube as well; when you say too slow, do you mean the minifigure, or the laser? And I am testing out laser designs, more than lighting. Thanks for the feedback, I will try to incorporate your comments in the next test mini/smile

Re: Laser Gun Tests

He probably means both.

Re: Laser Gun Tests

Re: Laser Gun Tests

I meant the laser bolt. The minifig doesn't look bad speed-wise, though now that I look at it again, the recoil looks a little funky... His arm doesn't move at all, he just tilts backwards at the waist. A combination of the two would probably look better.

Thanks RedBrick1!

And yeah, Noodle, I too had noticed afterwards that the recoil isn't very natural... Certainly something I'll be working on for the next test. Thanks for the feedback!

Smeagol used that method in Bane of the Sith.
I thought it looked pretty neat.

Re: Laser Gun Tests

How'd you get your cool lighting effect?

Which do you mean?

Re: Laser Gun Tests

like, what program are you using?

Re: Laser Gun Tests

All lighting is done in production, by messing with camera settings and lamps. If you mean the spotlight in the failed AC, that was a small flashlight. Anything else was done with a combination of camera settings and blue and green lightbulbs.
