Topic: A Mime Animation "Le Mime"- NEED HELP!! VOTE NOW!!!

Okay. So after some research (on youtube) a lot of mimes actually go to like clubs and other night-time entertainment bars or something and perform on like a stage in the back or front or something. I built a set that is like that, with tables, candles, people, ect. (and wine). I built a largish stage with curtains, and the mime will perform something there. Now for my questions:

In your opinions, should I film from many angles, as if they were each filmed from say different peoples cameras and phones, and change the quality for each view, like some would be slightly yellowish light and pixelated (camera-phones), others out of focus (camera) and some HD (camcorders) all as if it was shot from the audience at the tables, or should I make just constant HD in focus, cinematographic (is that a word?) shots. I could also just film on angle from the back of the audience as if there was a pro camera man stationed there, filming the event?

My other question is should I put more than one "acts" in the film? I have two acts in mind (trapped in a box and an act that has to do with a stone on the ground), should I merge them into one video (it will take longer this way) or should I make two seperate videos, each with only one act. That way, it'll be quicker to animate one act a time, and it'll come out sooner, but one act may be too short.

My last question is, should I put sound effects in the background, like turning a door knob sound when his hand is turning thin-air? Or should it be silent, except for maybe music? Will it be too hard to understand what's going on without the sounds?

I plan on making this 24fps, so really well animated. I hate all the mime animations that are on YouTube right now, and none are even classic miming, they are all killing or what-not.

What do you BiMers think?

I'll be posting progress and maybe some tests and clips along the way. I want to make this the best animation I've ever made, smoothest, best lighting, picture quality, etc. I also want this video to be a film people would remember me by (unless I make something even better). I'll be asking more questions as they occur, and asking for more opinions. I plan on making this 24fps, which is something I've never done, and don't know how I'll be doing it. I may have to get new software for set fps, and research how to walk at 24fps. Hope you guys help me on this project, and I'll try not to let anyone down!

lol You said above the pictures that you planned on making it 16fps and at the bottom 24fps.

Anyways, I think it would be good if it was filmed at different camera angles, but not varying quality and not as if they were taken by the audience.  It seems like that could make it hard to understand what's going on.  Without sound effects, it would be hard to follow, even with good animation.  I like the look of the fourth picture.  If you got him to be a bit brighter and not have such a bright reflection coming from him, it could be awesome!

Looking forward to seeing it.

Fixed.

And I also agree, I wont be doing a different quality/angle video. Thanks! I'm glad someone is interested in what I'm doing! mini/smile
The fourth picture was actually an accident. I don't plan on actually animating that, because I wanted a view with both a spotlight on the mime and enough light to see the audience in front.

Keeping the theater somewhat dark seems like it would create a good effect (not overly dark but dim).

I like the sets. Good job, I'll be looking forward to this.

I think that behind the brick wall there's too much space left unused. You could have gained some space for the set and the tables.

I'm so glad that people think I can do this! mini/smile

I purposefully used only half of the baseplate because I didn't want to zoom in with the cam too much (to get close ups of the mime) because if I do zoom too much, it'll blur and wont focus any closer. If the tables are too crowded, I can remove some.

Anyway, I have a Sony Handycam HDR-SR1 HD AVCHD Full HD 1080i Recording with 80x zoom and 30GB HDD and 4MP still capture. Amazing focus (Manual and Automatic) and a really big body. You could literally touch the lens and it'll focus on your fingerprint.

Re: A Mime Animation "Le Mime"- NEED HELP!! VOTE NOW!!!

I plan on doing some 24fps walk tests today- so stay tuned. I'll be researching how many frames in the walk cycle there are, then I'll be checking for some free animating programs to use.
Any tips for walking while my camera charges?

i would suggest that you pm mobiledeli and ask him how he does his walk cycle. mini/yes

Re: A Mime Animation "Le Mime"- NEED HELP!! VOTE NOW!!!

I may do 15 fps in the end... But thanks for the idea, I'll PM him tomorrow.

I am looking forward to this (JP3) but I warn you not to over-hype this. My advice would be not to bite off more than you can chew. I still am looking forward to this though.

This may be a bit ludicrous, but i say:  Bite off as much as you want, then chew what you can, swallow that, then figure out how to chew the rest.

Yeah I thought you just stick to conventional film angles for the film. Plus rather than shooting the entire film from the perspective of the audience, perhaps you could shoot some from the mime's perspective looking at the audience. This means you may need to expand your set behind the audience too, but some over-the-shoulder shots and close-ups of the mime may be really effective. mini/yes

Re: A Mime Animation "Le Mime"- NEED HELP!! VOTE NOW!!!

I'd love to see you film it from different angles, with varying quality and stuff. I've never seen it done before in a brickfilm and I think that it would make it more of a unique film. And also, I think sound effects are the way to go, just so the audience is more aware of what the mime is doing.

Also, will the cameras be moving around, like they're being held?

Re: A Mime Animation "Le Mime"- NEED HELP!! VOTE NOW!!!

I've decided to do it normal camera angles, quality, etc. Some behind the mime shots and scenes, like you guys suggested. I won't be doing the varying quality thing though, at least not for this animation, but its a good idea that I might try some other time (a disaster in the city, taped by different people's camera phones or something?). I will also PM mobdeli now about the fps walking, and might try some tests this weekend.

Found a name for this video to: Le Mime. I'll take place in a French pub or bar or late night restaurant.
