Here's a photo i made myself (i didn't steal it from anyone) this is actually my first photo manipulation; i made it using gimp.
You used one of GimpKnowHow's tutorials, didn't you?

I assume you used the generators? Personally, I think they are a way of cheating, but I used to use them too. Thy to make your stuff from scratch, You'll have more fun.

export your movie into an image sequence, then google image search for "muzzle flash" (get one that's on a black background). bring that image into gimp and paste it on top of the frames that need it. to get the black to go away, set the blending mode to "screen" or "add"
