Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

What do you mean by "soon"?

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Hmm, the background is nice, but the glare on the water seems a little too bright and nothing seems to be in focus.

It's a clever idea, but needs to be executed a little better.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Mmm, the tinfoil as water here is not that great. The wakes are way too big too seem like a river in the jungle/forest.

Nice shot anyway.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

1: Filmyguy: Whoa. Excellent use of interior lighting! Dude, please make movies like this! Wow this is just cool!

2: Gospelnut 2: Better than your last shot. as I said, the lighting is groovy, ignore what Night_Owl wrote.

3: NewRight: I don't like the fact that you can't see much, 'cause that means there's not much to judge around. The background is pulled of nicely, thou.

4: Gospelnut: The lighting is pulled off well here, and there's some good use of your set making abilities. I want to see a film from you! mini/tongue

Night Owl: This shot seems very rushed. The tinfoil water is not at all convincing. also IMO that shot is pretty dull. Some nice greenery back there, thou. mini/tongue

T.G-Tom: I like the colour saturation, and the speed effect makes my eyeballs vibrate. mini/eek However chroma key is very evident.

Darkman: Very plain, but still not at all bad.

Filip: Call me a !@#$%^, but I think some more intense mediums should be used to portray a scene like this. It's still cool.

NOStudios: Running from a half terminator, half robocop, half lasercat? I think this is your best entry yet, thou it's not outstanding, this angle is great.

Squash: The black expanse is well, but I don't quite catch what this is trying to say...

Fibbity: I don't get it. Haunted house? I can't really concieve what this is trying to say.

Aaron: I like the fog effect, how'd you pull it off? Kinda plain, the dutch angle comes off a bit out of place. However the laser effects are rockin'.

Goliathan 2: Better than your other frame, but still you've got very plain lighting and angle. Be original!

JustKiddin': Nothing at all special here. Rather bland this is; sorry to sound harsh.

Goliathan: Hm... things just really aren't coming together here. The angle is plain, and the theme is shown like a rainbow coloured tractor in the Sahara desert.

Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings in the process of judging. mini/tongue

Off to you, Filmyguy! I love a good game of tennis! mini/mrgreen

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Nuts....... well choose us a nice theme Filmyguy!

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I agree with you all about the water in my shot. I personally like it, though; I think I was able to achieve an ominous mood through the framing and the man's pose. Tell me if you think I'm wrong.

2: Gospelnut 2: Better than your last shot. as I said, the lighting is groovy, ignore what Night_Owl wrote.

No, please don't ignore what I wrote. I seriously think I had a point, even if some others disagree with me.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Don't worry, you had a point, I just had to make a trade-off in order to get the effect I was looking for.

GET DA BOOM MICROPHONE OUT OV MA FAAAACCCEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I think your shot is pretty dull; It doesn't have much to offer.

And I was joking about ignoring what you wrote. mini/tongue

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

I think one problem with this contest is that the frames that win tend to be somehow attention-grabbing, like a good photograph, even when some of the more plain entries would be effective in an actual film.
I'm not referring to this round in particular, but there were some instances where that happened a lot more.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Well, yes Night Owl. Good photographs tend to be higher on the list that bad ones...

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

That's not what I mean, though I might have expressed myself badly.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

what could have been: jeffrey and the old man make some robots
                      art page -- tumblr --youtube
              bricksinmotion's #13th best curmudgeon

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Anyway...

Theme:
VALENTINE]

Since Valentine's Day is coming up I thought I'd make the theme have something to do with the holiday. mini/wink

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

My entry.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/LLF/Pics/183022.jpg
The quality is different because I used the Live! Cam instead of the 4000 because my brother's computer doesn't have the software for the 4000.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

Looks nice, but gaah, the bottom half of your entry is just road. Please set your camera down so we can see everything straight, the weird angle makes it  look real awkward. Also, the lighting needs to be much better, it's a bit dim.

Re: Cinematography Challenge (Read Rules First)

A different aspect ratio would be fitting there, Aaron.
