Topic: Escape From Orthanc

There is only one lord of the ring.......only one, who can bend it to his will......and he does not share power!"
One of my favorite scenes from The Lord of the Rings, recreated in Lego.
I have been working on this for a while now and am very pleased with how it came out.
I would like to thank Smeagol for his constant advice and for creating the excellent title at the beginning of the film.

Re: Escape From Orthanc

haha! I find it funny that smeagol's name is 'smeagol' so at first I though it was a joke, from Gollum.

the eagle could use more work, but otherwise very nice.

Re: Escape From Orthanc

I liked that, though I'd definitely enjoy seeing something more original. You've reminded me that I need to watch those films again, though.

Wait, didn't you remake a scene from LotR?  And then start up a new series of montage clips?

That was really good, I like it.  The animation (particularly in the first few seconds with Saruman throwing Gandalf around) worked really well.  If I had to make a suggestion I'd say that the eagle behind Saruman is a little too bright.

And yeah, it was funny that my username is Sméagol given the clip.

Re: Escape From Orthanc

Here's a link for YouTube, I recon Blue_Ghost will add it sooner or later, but just thought I'd include it for the current viewers.

So, about the short. I really, really, really loved this! The animation, as creative as it is, looked even awesome-r with all the wand action, and the chroma key surprisingly turned out great too!

Re: Escape From Orthanc

This is fantastic! The only thing I didn't like was when he turned purple in the last shot, but the animation, sets and chroma keying are top notch. Well done.

Nice animation. The set was good and the chroma keying was great mini/bigsmile. You pulled of the eagle quite nicely as well.

Re: Escape From Orthanc

Very well done on the chroma keying. That was extremely accurate to the movie, man. Nice job. mini/wink

Haha, burn. What I meant is that I really think Blue_Ghost has a great personal style, and that I'd like to see films from him that are completely his own work.

I tried dimmming it down a bit, but the result kind of looked fake and tacked-on, so I left it like it was.
In retrospect, I probably should have investigated it a little more and tried different methods of darkening.

I'm glad that you enjoy my work! I made this film because I thought that this scene in the movie would be a great scene to re-create in Lego.
I didn't start working hard on this until I made a Lego model of Orthanc and thought that it looked pretty good.
I will post some pictures of the set soon.

Thanks for all the comments folks!

Great film! mini/bigsmile Loved it!
The only thing was that everything was very dark, except the bird? That looked a little silly mini/wink

Actually, him turning purple is a result of bad chroma keying. I used a different color screen behind the set for that scene than for all the other scenes in the film, so that's probably why it ended up weird.
Anyways, I'm glad you liked it!

EDIT: some images used in the film and a picture of the set:

Re: Escape From Orthanc

Wow, that was great! My only complaint are the faces of the wizards. They seem really out of place. Before making this, I would have gotten some beards. Oh, and did you build the Orthanc yourself? Or did you find instructions somewhere?

Re: Escape From Orthanc

That was amazing!
The only problem is the faces of Gandalf and Saruman. They look odd.

I built that myself. The one in the film is actually the second version of it I built, the second version is more stable and a lot bigger.

I approve.

Then again, I approve of almost anything that has cool effects. mini/smile
