Topic: Brickfilm classics

First of all, moderators if there is a thread similar to this please let us know we aren't trying to copy anyone. Okay, this thread is dedicated to brickfilms that you would count as classics. You may feel free to post a link to the film if you wish. We will start out with the obvious classic The Magic portal. Also another obvious one (to us at least) Unrenewable by the man himself Philip Heinrich. If we spelled his name wrong please correct us.

Re: Brickfilm classics

I wouldn't count Unrenewable as a classic.

The Citizen of the Year, anyone? mini/bigsmile

Damn you beat every member of this site to it.

But yeah unrenewable isn't a classic.

Frankenstein is though.

Re: Brickfilm classics

I agree with the other guys, Unrenewable isn't a classic. "Through the hatch" is a classic imo, Robota and Special Deliverance (this last one is one of my favourite brickfilms of all time).

In my opinion, the classics are The Magic Portal, The Letter, Citizen of the Year, and Robota.

EDIT: and Out of Time.

Re: Brickfilm classics

Fred's Day, Robota, Magic Portal, Citizen Of The Year, The Letter, GRACE! Frankenstein, Driven, Beast.

Yeah.

Re: Brickfilm classics

Unrenewable? A classic?

PAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

No.
Unrenewable is a very very very good film, but it certainly is NOT a classic.

The Magic Portal is the classiest classic of all the classics.
Lamplight, I wouldn't consider "Driven" as a classic. Doesn't have the classy classic feel to it.

I used the word "classic" 7 times in this post! mini/bigsmile

Unrenewable is very good but not a classic.
Modern Warfare 2 is a very good game but not a classic.

IMO Classics are:
- Grace
- The Magic Portal
- TCoTY
- The Letter
- Beast

Re: Brickfilm classics

I think Cognizance could be a classic.

Classic
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The word classic means something that is a perfect example of a particular style, something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality. The word can be an adjective (a classic car) or a noun (a classic of American literature). It denotes a particular quality in art, architecture, literature and other cultural artifacts. In commerce, products are named 'classic' to denote a long standing popular version or model, to distinguish it from a newer variety. Classic is used to describe many major, long-standing sporting events. Colloquially, an everyday occurrence (e.g. a joke or mishap) may be described as 'an absolute classic'.

Unrenewable may be a classic. Many people misunderstand the meaning of classic. I find that The Citizen of the Year is an average brickfilm that has been bloated by clowns on the site into something big. It does lack many important parts, and is overall average. The Letter was more of a classic because it demonstrates simple skill to make a simply composed and well executed film, sure, there were some minor flaws, but the film maker tried hard and made sure that it had a strong and fun plot. Just Kidden and many more of us have mistaken classic films to be old films. But nobody crows much about n00bic Star Wars films made in 2003, right? Sure, The Magic Portal is a definite classic, but that doesn't mean of all films, it is most classic of all. I see it as a doorway to Brickfilming, not as much as a super-classic film. Driven is a classic because it used music and graphics to tell a story, which I feel is a form of classical film. After all,one of the 2 ways I would describe a classic brickfilm would be a brickfilm that used graphics and Lego nature to show a strong and complicated story that can be interpreted in many ways. Lets take The Letter for instance, this film could be interpreted as a man with bad luck, or a man who is victimized by an evil letter. The film is funny, so the watcher is entertained, even if they don't fully understand the plot. This form of classic film, to wrap it up, uses a special way of storytelling to make the film entertaining, even if the director's interpretation of the film is different than that of the viewer's.

The other form of Classic brickfilm would be a seemingly flawless film, that paves the way to a wave of storytelling. Unrenewable would fall under this category, as its plot is pretty straight forward. Beast would also fall under this, because the story and characters removed the flaw unless the viewer actually looked for them, Days of our Pizza would also fall under this category.

I have probably confused you.

Re: Brickfilm classics

tl;dr
Classic is defined by Merriam-Websters as "a work of enduring excellence."

Unrenewable has not had much time to "endure" anyway.

And while it is still one of my favorites, it is NOT a classic.

Re: Brickfilm classics

Eh Unrenewable is not a classic. Yeah sure it's a little piece of eye candy, but I didn't like it much and I don't think it'd be regarded as a classic.

Re: Brickfilm classics

Threads like this just show me that so few people here are aware of the pre-Bricks In Motion generation. Past brickfilmers such as:

-Jay Silver
-Hali
-Ladon
-Digital Dave
-Protowrx
-The Leftfielders
-Motfilms
-Hoogiman
-4 guys 1 brain
-Bluntman
-The Janitor
-RevMen
-Cometgreen
-JamesFM
-Andrew Boyer/David Lennie
-The Lieberman Bros
-Yellowhead Studios
-Quakefilmdave
-Spite Your Face
-Dewfilms
-Holgor

Back to the subject, I've stated my opinion on Grace many times before, but to say it again, I do not believe Grace is Nos' best work (that being Frankenstein). Some of my picks would be: Frankenstein, Robota, Cognizance, The Magic Portal, The Gauntlet, Good Company, The White Ninja, The Citizen of the Year, Out of Time, Triumph of the Empire, Star Wars: The Great Disturbance, Aladibababad, ONE: A Space Odyssey, Rapunzel, About a Door, The Hand of Fate, The Letter, Zero Gravity Rebellion, and a few others I'm forgetting.

Re: Brickfilm classics

I'm glad that MindGame mentioned some of the classics by Leftfield Studios!  My favorite is Aladibababad, but The Great Disturbance gets quoted the most at my house. mini/bigsmile

It also seems to me that Unrenewable could certainly be considered a classic in the future.  It certainly "blew a lot of minds" when it came out and is a unique film and an inspiration to many.

Re: Brickfilm classics

You can't forget "Cold Comfort".

Re: Brickfilm classics

Mindgame, I've heard of ALOT of them
Anyway: Faithless, Grace, Special Deliverance, The Magic Portal, Aladibababad, and pretty much most of Jay Silver's work.

EDIT: (Can't believe that I forgot these) Out of time, Zero gravity rebellion and The Letter.
