Topic: Gears of Solace

I started this film in November to try and time it with the release of Gears of War 2 to make it a bit more relevant, but nearly three months later, I obviously failed in that task. I'm not entirely happy with it, and I had to tear down the set for THAC 6, so I had to compromise my original ending, but I found a way to work with what I had. I don't by a long shot call it my best work, but eh, whatever.

Oh, and people attuned to the Gears of War franchise might get it more than those who aren't.

Thanks again, Lechnology, for the awesome special effects help.

Enjoy.

Hehe, that was a funny film. Very creative, and the end was the best part. Good job.

Haha, that was great. I didn't expect the ending, which was pretty funny mini/bigsmile.

My old YouTube is since long ago defunct - now even removed.
Here is my new one.

Re: Gears of Solace

Wonderful animation as always.

Re: Gears of Solace

I loved it. Great animation, beautiful camera movements and an original concept. Another brilliant MindGame movie.

Re: Gears of Solace

Woah, wait. A Gears video with no chest-high concrete blocks? Epic fail, dude.

Apart from that, nicely done.

That's wonderfull!

Re: Gears of Solace

That was perfect! I loved every bit of it! The animation was brilliant, the lighting was perfect (I may have seen one light flicker in it) and the camera movement was beautiful! I loved it! I hope to see another film like this from you soon MindGame.

Re: Gears of Solace

I have an odd habit of not watching YouTube videos, or any videos for that matter, with the audio on while people are around, unless it's on my computer. So, while I had no idea what was really going on, I got to pay more attention to the technical qualities, and they were all well done, as usual.

HeHeHe, funny as always. Zach, I know you probaly get asked this so many times, but how do you get your animations so smooth? mini/confused

Re: Gears of Solace

"Quality Rape" - Nice term, I'll remember to use that one.

Everything in this was awesome, great animation, great pace, great sound effects. I love how you turned the Tommy guns into the Gears of War weapons, they looked really authentic.
I'd love to see a full on fight scene from you, I think that'd be something to see.

Edit: I'm not allowed to say Rape on the forums?

Re: Gears of Solace

These are child-friendly forums. No swearing here.

And MindGame already has done a couple of fight scenes.

It's not a swear word, that's why I was surprised. And I meant a new fight scene.

Re: Gears of Solace

Oh man, I loved that. The animation was beautifully smooth as usual, but man, the camera movements. I loved those most of all probably even though there were only a few. Very smooth. Sadly, I don't play Gears of War so I had no idea what you were talking about, I still found it funny in a few parts. mini/mrgreen

Re: Gears of Solace

Yeah, I'm a little surprised 'r ape' isn't allowed on here. Ah well.

Hmm, the quality on the regular YouTube version seems to have cleared up from when I first uploaded, so I'm going to remove that annotation.

And thanks for the comments, everyone.

Re: Gears of Solace

That was awesome, however, I noticed a dead pixel in the film, might need to fix that.

I had just added it to the censor a few hours ago because we had some trouble with people making explicit sexual references in the Caption Contest.  I've removed it for now though, there are other permissible uses so it's better to take care of that on an individual basis.

Regarding the film: I'm not very familiar with Gears of War, but I still enjoyed this.  Aside from the technical work I also thought the comic timing was well plotted out and effective.

Re: Gears of Solace

I forgot to mention, I don't know if anyone noticed, but check out the characters arms at 0:45 to 0:58...I guess you did that so they could reach higher. What did you use? Looks like melted lego.

Re: Gears of Solace

That was actually clay. I saw the technique used before in a film a while back, and I needed to extend the arms to support the lancers.
