The English goal was a goal, yes. The German goals that resulted due to England pushing to equalize might not have happened if that goal was given. So you can't say "should of been 4 - 2"

Re: Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Discussion Thread

I seriously can't believe that FIFA doesn't have video referral, especially since soccer is the biggest international sport, excluding the Olympics.
Hockey, cricket and rugby all must have had video analysis for 20+ years at least, why on earth does the World Cup not have them?

Germany would have still won though, and I'm glad they did. I tipped them 3-2.

It was 2 - 1 when that goal was made, the other goal was already made.

Re: Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Discussion Thread

It's not as simple as saying "if the goal was counted it would've been 4-2 instead of 4-1". That is undermining the effect of the goal on the players' mentalities.

If the tiebreaking goal had been counted, Germany and England would have been at 2-2, with the German team getting a psychological blow because they had been ahead by 2 goals before, and England just put them right back where they started. England on the other hand would've become stronger mentally by the tiebreaker, as they just came back from being 2 goals behind to being tied again.

If the goal had been counted, the mentality of both teams would have been severely different, resulting in a different playing style by the players and ultimately in a whole different match (or a different second half, at least).

Riley: the problem with FIFA is that it is more conservative than most Republicans.

You mean the first one. But yeah, they would've won 2-1 anyway...

North Korea never made it through the group stage, South Korea lost to Uruguay in the 16s. Czech Republic never even got into this World Cup.

Re: Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Discussion Thread

On the bright side, if you want to root for the Czech Republic, Tomas Berdych made the finals of Wimbledon this year.
I have to say I'm pretty surprised Brazil went out, but then, I haven't been watching their games either.
