Damn, you've got to be half deaf if you can't hear it playing even DVD's, Tim's already said that his sounds like it's 'going to explode' when he plays on it, don't tell me that neither your own, or any of your 'mates' xbox's make a noise when you play on it. (Edit: I meant 'mates' in a way that meant you've been using it as a back-up for all of your arguments, not that I don't think you have any friends.)

We're still waiting on which model Tim has, your argument is invalid until he tells.

Riley wrote:

Nope, exactly the same, and you could save more if you import it, and you won't have any problems with region-coded games, since the ps3 doesn't have region-coding, something that the 360 does. - I should have mentioned this earlier, being an aussie gamer, you'd surely know that we get charged way more than we should for games at retail, importing games from the US is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Nope, it's over $200 more. $200AU for a 360 doesn't sound anything like the $450-500 for a PS3.

And the 360 doesn't have region coding, even for DVDs, I play region 2 DVDs and an NTSC-J version of Halo 3 just fine on my PAL box which should have region 4 coding.

No region coding what so ever mini/smile

Most of us import our games, ever wonder why the prices are so high here? Because hardly anyone is buying them from the stores.

If we don't import, we buy second hand.

You mean everyone who had a launch 360 still has it, and in working condition? I'm calling absolute !@#$ if that is the case.

No...I gave total and honest information...I know ONE guy who had a launch console which died. I know noone else who had launch consoles.

Riley wrote:

Hmm, okay, well thats what I meant when I said that the 360 can upscale to 1080, obviously the interperetation of the term is up in the air, I'll put it a little more simply if you like. DVD's cannot, under any circumstance, play Full HD right off the bat, only Blu-ray discs have that capability. Since DVD's can't play HD straight from the disc, this means the 360 has to do some internal work to blow it up to 1080. Don't give me any more rubbish on this topic, the 360 can't play 100%, real, full, native HD, or whatever. If you still think it can, fine, but then just remember the PS3 can handle it much better

Well if you were only talking about DVDs you should have said so mini/tongue

And you can 'rent' full HD movies off xbox live, an interesting concept...makes piracy waaay too easy though so I don't reckon it will last long. Xbox will probably start making models with blueray drives in them sometime.

But the point is, the 360 can natively play full HD. I have a few free HD videos I downloaded off xbox live.

Oh and I'll add that you CAN put HD video on a DVD mini/tongue
A British Xbox 360 mag we get here I got only once comes with a DVD and they have all their vids in full HD. Which is really weird because there's at least an hour or two of video, it's probably HD which is still higher than SD DVD.

Oh and I've made full HD DVDs on a standard DVD mini/tongue

That enough 'rubbish' for you? Pickup isn't for another week so there's more to come mini/tongue

Riley wrote:

So only LG 3dtv's will work with the 360? I'd rather have the option to choose any 3dtv on the market - a choice my ps3 gives me.

No...that's like saying your car will only work in Australia because that's where it was made...LG has 3DTVs so they obviously know what they're doing...they're helping each other...

Just in case this gets heated Riley, I want you to know I'll still love you no matter what console you play mini/smile

Yeah no worries, holding a grudge over something as trivial as this is something a 360 fanboy would do.

Anyway, DVD's can't play true HD, they can only play at 480i/p. DVD technology is over a decade old, it can't play formats only created in the last 5 or so years - that was the whole reason blu-ray was made. Any other tech-savvyish person here can tell you that DVDs are capped at 480p. The DVDs xbox games come on, the DVDs you buy movies on and the blank DVDs you can buy from retailers, are all capped at 480p. While upscalers have gotten better, the DVD technology has not. The 360 upscales DVDs to 1080p.

Also, I'm reffering to the 360 Elite vs the PS3, the arcade and lower models are not even comparable to a ps3. The Ps3 may cost $200 more, but in the whole package, it's worth about $300 more. I wouldn't have an arcade for free.
Actually I would, who wouldn't? But I wouldn't pay more than $100.

Also, I highly doubt MS will even want to take Blu-ray in the near future, not until it becomes the standard format. Microsoft embarressed themselves backing the HD DVD, not onyl by picking the losing candidate, but selling a way overpriced external disc drive for it. And if Sony get a say in it, Blu-ray won't be arriving onto the xbox anytime soon - it's still a massive advantage the ps3 has.

360s are infact game-region-coded, some games are not, but a lot are. Go google it, there are a bunch of results with lists of all region free games and how to mod your xbox to be region free. All PS3 titles are region free.

There was some other thing I was gonna include, but I forgot what that was.

Edit: Just remembered.

The last-gen xbox versus ps2, what would you say?

Everyone picks the ps2. The Xbox had way more horsepower, but its library was abysmal compared to the PS2's.
Really, what dictates a systems success, is its library and the diversity it has. In my opinion, the PS3 has got this one easily. The only 360 exclusives I can really think of are war, shoot em-up kind of games and the odd racing game (Halo, Gears of War, Forza)
Lately, the playstations catalogue of games has been getting much stronger and diverse, and I should also mention that almost all ps3 games from the core sony devs are some of the highest rating games ever. You've got platformers (Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank), First Person Shooter (Killzone 2, Resistance) Action-y games (Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Amry of Two, Infamous) And a bunch of other games (Heavy Rain, Modnation Racers, God of War)

And there are a bunch of awesome games coming up. Gran Turismo 5 will knock the socks off of every other racing game in the world, Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Little Big Planet 2, Final Fantasy 14 & The Last Guardian)

That's Australia,In the UK Xbox360's are around £150 for an "arcade" and £200 for an "elite". While 120GB PS3 slims are only £250.
So that's not much of a difference between them considering PS3 has Blu-Ray and free PSN making the PS3 cheaper if you get an "elite" with one year on "Xbox Live"

And that's another reason why Im getting a PS3.

That's an interesting point, I don't think anyone has taken into account that PS3 has almost got to the same price as the Xbox. A lot of 360 fans are living in the past, claiming that there systems are half the price as a PS3 and saying that the PS3 only has like 10 good games. Think about it people, the PS3 is better now than it ever was before and it is better than the 360. 360s are good but not as good as PS3s.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

And there exclusive games?

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Chuppa/Signatures/sig1.png

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

PS3 Exclusives: Uncharted (Both), LittleBigPlanet, MAG, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Series (There are more, just can't remember)

360 Exclusives (Some of which are also on PC): Halo 3, Mass Effect (Both), can't remember more, lol

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

In my opinion PS3 exclusives are better than 360 ones, and there were more exclusives for the PS3 in 2009 then there were for 360.
My favourate PS3 exclusives would be: Resistance, Heavy rain, Killzone 2, Infamous, Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Super rub 'a' dub and GT prologue.

Games can run off DVDs in full HD, assuming you're saying otherwise I'm not sure. You can actually put full HD video on a standard DVD, I work for a TV studio and we burn all our shows to DVD to send to Sydney for broadcasting. When we first started with the software, we couldn't figure out why the computers could play them and DVD players couldn't. It was because they were all encoded into HD DVDs mini/tongue

We thought it was cool, but very very very useless mini/confused

Fair enough, granted my comparisons were extreme, but was referring to cheapest brand new prices for both.

M$ has the money and power to do what they want, they'll save themselves further embarrassment switching then not switching. Didn't the new FF come on like six 360 discs? While on PS3 it just had the one, M$ would be stupid not to switch.

Doesn't bother me though when I can get recent games for $15 each mini/tongue

I have an original Xbox and a PS2.

I can say I've had more fun on the Xbox, but I've had it much longer. The Xbox let me play Halo 2 FINALLY and Call of Duty 3 which was console exclusive and not to mention Jedi Knight Academy which I had been DYING to play since the demo came out.

But the PS2 wins hands down mini/tongue

You know what the real killer is?

I think the PS3>360 mini/tongue

Only real reasons why I got the 360 in the first place was to finish the Halos and because there was no way in hell I was going to be able to afford a PS3 mini/tongue

I could and probably would have sold my 360 for a PS3 but Natal intrigues me as an animation tool, not to mention I'd like to give it a go as a gaming device.

And I just made you go FUUUUUU over our whole discussion, didn't I? mini/tongue

EDIT: Speaking of Natal, I've just heard through official channels that Natal will be christened 'Wave' at E3.

Yea that's probably it, they've updated them several times. Mine is still the current model I believe bought at the beginning of this year.

Went into town yesterday and bought SpiderMan 2 and Medal of Honour: Rising sun for £3 each! Haven't tried MOH yet but Spiderman 2 is great so far. I can't find a $ sign on the map so I can't find the Spidy Store. Does anybody know of a way to enlarge the map?

I have to be on the 360 side of this for now, my step-dad will soon be buying a PS3 and then I can make my comparison. My argument for the PS3 through, Little Big Planet is the best Indie CONSOLE game ever. I don't want to get flamed saying that there are better Indie games for the PC

An Indie game is an independent game, not made by a major game publishing studio.

Have fun reading a boring wikipedia article on what an indie game is... :P

And here's a list of some good ones :)
