PS3: Free internet
X-box 360: Internet costs $$
I own a PS3 and I luv it. So my opinion is somewhat biases. You should look up both console's exclusives and see what games you like.

It depends on what you prefer. Xbox Live is a much more competitive community, don't expect to find many social and nice encounters. It's nothing but teens and adults talking trash. At the same time though, the 360 is far superior in FPS's and racing games. If you like either genre, then definitely check it out. Some good titles for beginners are, Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2, GTA IV, Gears or War 2, and so on.
As for PS3, it depends if you want a more multi-purpose device. The PS3 has Blu-ray, which is amazing. Not to mention it actually has an internet browser. Another big plus is free online service, for Xbox Live, it's $50 a year. However, Xbox Live does tend to have a better online experience and if you can afford the extra $50 a year, it's worth it. The PS3 does do well in 3rd person shooters, and MMO's. The Dual Shock controller is a great tool to help you immense in these games. Games I would recommend for the PS3 are, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Fallout 3, and so on.
I've actually been thinking about getting a 360, becuase most of my friends have them, and I'm sick to death of bad ps3 ports.
I have a PS3 becuase
- Free online services and gaming
- Recently the ps3 has started to come out with a very strong catalogue of exclusives
- One of the best Blu-ray and DVD upscaler players on the market
- Quiet, you can never hear it when playing movies, sometimes when a game is starting lag you'll hear the disc whirring.
- Reliable. This is the only thing that has stopped me from getting a 360 just yet. When I shell out a couple hundred bucks on a console, I want to make sure it lasts me 5 or so years. 360's have a pretty bad failure rate after about 3 years. I know one guy who's on his 4th in 4 years - but he's a hardcore gamer.
- Built in wifi and rechargable controllers
- Full 1080i HD, the 360 only upscales from 720p
- 250GB harddrive standard
I'll be getting a 360 soon enough though, mainly for XBL and the better cross-platform titles.
In other news, our Wii is broken. It probably stuffed out over a year ago, just none of us realised.

I beg to differ, you can choose which community you join. Social, competitive, casual etc and you WILL be treated accordingly. The social dudes are always very nice, where as most people would be "OMG!!!!!11!!1! YOU F***ING CAMPER!!!! OMG I HATE YOU!!!!" They're like "Whoa dude, nice shot! I'm saving that screenshot!"

Excuse the double post.
Quite: If you install the games onto the 360 HDD, the disc won't spin at all unless you've just put it in.
Reliable: They've reportedly solved the major RROD problem, not to say they don't happen but they're now practically impossible if you treat your console with respect.
Controllers: Recharge kit costs $16-20 AU, can you even swap PS3 batteries around? I bet they cost more than $20 ;-D
Full HD: Uh, yea the 360 has full HD, I've got a 42" full HD screen to prove it.
HDD: And they just released a 250GB drive
Not to mention you can swap them about easily yourself.

The PS3 controller has a rechargeable lithum ion battery built in.
My point, I'd rather have a battery I can change and swap on the fly myself. When my battery dies, I don't want to fork out another $99 for a new controller. The PS3 controller costs half that of an actual 360 console here! How's that for over priced?
EDIT: I forgot to add that those recharge kits come with a battery ;-)
PS3 batteries don't die. Sony are so confident in them that if one does die, they say they will replace it for free.
Chemistry says otherwise. All batteries will die.
That's also assuming you don't break the flimsy little thing, my mate has one that is totally shattered ![]()
I have a controller that has seen regular use for over three years with no signs of failure, so even if they do die eventually, they last a long time.
That's also assuming you don't break the flimsy little thing, my mate has one that is totally shattered
The same could go for any controller, it just depends on how well you take care of it.
I beg to differ, you can choose which community you join. Social, competitive, casual etc and you WILL be treated accordingly.
That's not necessarily true. When I had Xbox Live, I was in the "social" one (or the laid back one, whatever it was called), yet still came across plenty of trash-talkers and elitists.
So either they don't sort you by your zone, or casual players are jerks. I'm guessing it's the former, and it's definitely not true that you'll be treated accordingly. Hardly anybody looks at your gamertag, anyway.
For comparison, I play online on my PS3 somewhat-irregularly (though pretty much the same amount of time I spent on Live when I had it, and it wasn't much) and while I'm not saying I haven't encountered jerks, I could probably count the times I've encountered someone unpleasant on one hand, and I couldn't do that when talking about my experience on Xbox Live.

My friend's PS3 controller died 2 days after he got it. Haha

I've compared the two, the 360 controller feels much more solid.
The controller for the 360 is a much better build I agree. I have used a playstation controller before and they feel like they're going to shatter in my hands.

It's not the disc you hear, it's the whole damn thing chugging along.

Yeah if you treat it with care, but to be honest, I'd rather have the security knowing that my disc won't get scratched if I bump the 360 while it's playing.

You'll never need to swap the PS3 batteries over the course of 6 or so years, they're that much more reliable.
Full HD: Uh, yea the 360 has full HD, I've got a 42" full HD screen to prove it.
The 360 does technically ouput to full HD, though it upscales it. It cannot natively play 1080p HD, the PS3 can.
HDD: And they just released a 250GB drive

Comes standard in all PS3's, and the microsoft HDD is way overpriced. You can also use any hard drive with the PS3.
Also, the PS3 controller is pretty damn solid, I couldn't tell you how many times I've dropped it, still works fine, battery life still lasts the 30 or so hours of gametime it did when it was out of the box. And you can't deny that the d-pad on the 360 is atrocious.
Edit: Just read about the upcomig playstation premium service, and I have to say if it is at least on par with the 360, and the if the Move does come out right after E3, Sony will have a stranglehold on the market.

Just finished Read Dead just then, and damn, probably one of the best games I've played.
I just beat Red Dead Redemption. Amazing game. Kind of a downer ending; very different than most video games. I love how the game is all cinematic, like it plays as a movie at times. If you have no plans on getting the game, you really just need to look up the ending on YouTube. Really intense.
Have the credits rolled yet? There was a stage when I thought I had finished the whole story, though a mate pointed out to me that the story continues a bit longer.
No actual spoilers below if you've finished most of the game - but if you haven't played it, don't look.
John returns to his family in Beechers Hope

Complete the final story mission "The Last Enemy That Shall be Destroyed"

Go to Blackwater and look for the side quest "Do You Remember My Family" to fully complete the story.
New Sonic game announced. Sure is out of the blue.
It's not the disc you hear, it's the whole damn thing chugging along.
Install your game and the thing is perfectly silent...it chugs like a ninja
Yeah if you treat it with care, but to be honest, I'd rather have the security knowing that my disc won't get scratched if I bump the 360 while it's playing.
Again, install the game.
I'd rather have the security that I won't kill my 360 if it get bumped while playing, unlike the PS3 whos laser is such a delicate thing that jumping up and down in the same room as my mates killed his.

Why do they sell replacements?

I've just told you that it doesn't upscale...I've got the 360 and the screen to prove it.

You can use any HDD in a 360...it's just a laptop HDD

I've charged my 360 batteries three times, I've had it since the beginning of the year.
And sir, I deny the atrocity of said d-pad.

Everyone remember when the PSN went down? You get what you pay for.

Yeah, go by the train station in Blackwater and look for the stranger. He'll tell you where Ross is. Follow his instructions.
