Topic: The D-Day Project

This Project Is a WIP Brickfilm because this is the props, setting, background for the brickfilm. Once the diorama is done I will start filming a WWII D-Day Story. So later on I could call for voices mini/wink

Okay, this will be my biggest project i'll ever attempt.
This Project is SERIOUS.
I am going to build a diorama of Omaha Beach as it looked on June 6, 1944. Saying this it will be HUGE and take long to make and order all the parts.
So far, I've ordered only figs and such. Right now I have 12 US figs. I ordered 31 M1 helmets also.
I'm planning on it being 416 studs wide. here is a picture of how wide it will look.

All of them are 32 x 32 Lego base plates. I'm sure it will be 7 baseplates long.
Heres how the American soldiers will look,

This is a medic. With some Standard US Soldiers by him. Thats how they will look. Just replaced with the new BA M1's mini/bigsmile
I still havent thought of a good design for the LCVP Higgins boats. I'l be building about 12 to 14 of those.
The boats will hold 12 or 14 sldiers in each. Meaning I need up to 144 American soldiers.
The Germans will use BrickArms Stahlhelm's / AMAZINGARMORY WWII German Helmets...The torso I'll use will be the old dark bley dino 2010 sets tosos. Or custom... mini/wink

The Hill were the German have there Pillboxes will be made with BURP's.
And the beach will be made with a LOT of tan Baseplates. The water will only be a little. Using the 32 x 32 blue baseplates.


Project will probably take a year so keep an eye on this thread.
I'm making this to show what the horrors of WWII were like and a memorial for what they did.
When finished you may see it at a future Brickworld :blush:

I was thinking of doing something similar a while back, only I was going to do Dunkirk rather than Normandy. I could never get the time, money or will power to go ahead with. good luck with yours. Just from looking at those pictures I can see its going to be a logistical nightmare for you. I can't imagine how hard it will be to light that set and animate that many minifigers. Its a shame you chose Omaha beach and not one of the other beaches as I feel its been over done by films and games. The americans participated in a small minority of the landings and yet they are always spotlighted as if they did it all. But I suppose its easier to do it with Americans because of brick arms US helmets and that vast amount of American voice actors.

I have to say this looks like an awesome project (you must be very ambitious).  It looks like you have a great start.  I can't imagine animating all those minifigs.  When time comes, I may be willing to help with some of the voice acting if you need it.  Best wishes on your D-Day film.

Wow the boat looks very like the real thing I went to Normandy on a school trip and the boat looks very lifelike.

The biggest Brickfilm set design on that beach by far! A hugely ambitious project and it could turn out to be one of the best brickfilms ever. My only objection is the war concept. There are so many films about the war, when it was only 9 Years out of 13.6 Billion. Please don't flame, it just my opinion.

I would like to know how your planning on animating the men walking of the boat; the studs seem to the wrong way round which would make it difficult to animate so many men. I personally think you should take that into account.

When have you ever seen a good brick film about WW2? This one may actually be good. But then again maybe not. And the reason there are so many films about WW2 is because so much went on in those years both in civilian life and in the military. It does irritate me when they change history in films though, 'The great escape' for example, because I don't recall any Americans being held in Stalag Luft III.

But I mean seriously, it doesn't take much to shoot a few people with guns in a brickfilm. That is why I never liked Pizzamovies. Anyway, that aside, it looks incredible!

Americans were held at Stalag Luft III, but were shipped out to another camp before the actual escape took place.

WWII officially started when America joined in 1939 being the last world power to join the war. The conflict started in 1937.

Here endeth the lesson.

EDIT: I would also like to point out that the boats used in the D-Day landing were made of wood and not metal as they should have been.

@LegOpinions, the reason so many people make war movies is because more happened that changed history on D-Day than on say, today. I mean, sure, funny brickfilms are fun to watch. There are considerably more comedies out there than war movies. But, so far, not a single good, historically accurate war brickfilm has been made that I know of. I'm not flaming you, but if he wants to make a war movie, especially a good one, that's all for the better.
