No, James Cameron's success strategy is to release a DVD with NO EXTRAS and then announce a Special 4 Disc Edition in November.
CAMEROOOONNNNNN!!!![/khan]
Seriously, f**k you Cameron.
Dude, Fox is responsible for the DVD distribution, not Cameron. And Fox's generally evil penny pinching business strategy should really not come as a surprise.
Yeah stupid Fox ![]()

Yeah they want to make money, how stupid.
I don't see why a movie thread is suddenly related to a indy-webbrowser. What's wrong with FireFox?

Well no, Avatar is going to make (and has already made) a mountain of cash regardless, they don't need to use tactics that withhold the extras just so they can exploit people's wanting to get the movie on DVD as soon as they can.

The more money the better ... It's not like they set a max limit of how much they may earn on 1 something
No that's fair enough, but what I'm objecting to is their methods, bringing out what is essentially half a product at full price and then releasing it again months later just so they can make an extra buck. Would you agree with their methods if they were simply jacking the prices way up?
I don't fault Fox for making money, I just don't like how they're doing it, so I'm not going to buy anything until I'm satisfied with what's available. That's my right as a consumer.

OK. I just thought that this may have been Cameron's decision because it was his idea to re-release Avatar in cinemas - which if you look in the upcoming movies discussion thread will know my reaction it that. THAT was ridiculous considering the movie is now already out on DVD and for just a few more dollars you can buy the movie to watch whenever you want for pretty much ever.
If I want to watch a movie on its release with special features, I don't see why I shouldn't. EVERY DVD I know of has released a 2 Disc edition, or an edition with features on the same day as the featureless DVD - unless the movie wasn't released on DVD when it first came out, or released in the early days when a DVDs most advanced feature was interactive menus. Why do we have to wait until November to get the rest of it? All the studio has done it slapped the movie onto a disc and put it in a box. I could take every brickfilm I have made and slap it onto a disc within a couple of minutes. Bingo. Jenga. Uno. Lotto. I'm rich.
Ah, but I bet this isn't the grander scheme. I bet the studios are releasing the DVD now so that everyone buys it, then they re-release it to cinemas resulting in everyone going to watch it, and then release the special edition resulting in everyone buying it. And then the sequel will come out....
I know the studios are trying to make money, and I understand that - but this is just outrageous. Maybe for a movie ten to twenty years old, but not something that stopped showing a month or so ago.

You're absolutely right, its perfectly reasonable to bring out two versions together, but this ecourages people who want the movie ASAP, but who also want the extras, to buy twice. Meanwhile consumers who just want the version with extras are made to wait months and those that aren't fussed about extras have to pay more for what would be the 'cheap' version had they both been released together.
I'm gonna try to write one-word-reviews on movies now ![]()

How to Train Your Dragon
Yay Dreamworks! this nearly redeems you for Shrek <insert number here>. A good 3D movie, really fun to watch, I'd go see it again if I could afford the $21 to see it on cheap tuesday.
AVATAR
*shakes fist at jb hi-fi* how dare you show in your damn window all this "Yeah, making of features!" etc etc and then sell a blu-ray ot me that HAS NO SPECIAL FEATUERS AT ALL!!!! *cry* I was so excited and now all hope is gone until november. However being the first ever Blu-Ray I have bought and watched on my TV, I am severly impressed.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
"I Just want an answer," sadly, we never really get it in the film that Steven Spielberg wrote AND directed. The first encounter consists of a really thrilling- well, encounter with unknown beings who fly around in mini saucers and bright red lights. And as much as the characters we want to know what the crap just happened. The story focuses on two characters who have shared the same encounter, I forget their names so I'll call them 'Man' and 'Lady'. 'Lady' follows her 4 year old from her little house on the prairie (hehehe) to the aliens and Man chases the aliens in his awesome truck. After a long series of events we learn that the aliens respond to gang signs and a catchy tune. Man and Lady eventually both lose their family, Lady had her son abducted (WHY??) by the aliens, and Man has a wife who needs to take some chill pills. Eventually they make it into the govt camp where they expect the aliens to land, M and L are lead there because of a compelling instinct given to them in their first encounter.
They climb to the landing zone with Larry who is eventually left behind and forgotten, the aliens stand around for 30 minutes after returning all the abducted (WHY???) and Lady gets her son back. Man however, goes into the ship and is zapped by a red beam. Then there's a happy ending and life goes on, I guess. Except Larry who spent the rest of his days on the side of a mountain.
Overall it was fairly entertaining, 3.1/5. To be honest I didn't see the last five minutes ![]()
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
This was a frustrating movie to watch.
It had an intriguing premise.
It had strong actors.
It had delightful visuals.
But the thing didn't make a lick of sense! The narrative was jumbled and incoherent. I was disappointed by the poor execution of what could have been quite interesting.
