I have proper LEGO official footballs. I got them in a mix and match box of Lego from Lego Denmark.

People have masked much, much worse, so doing the ball in CGI wouldn't really be worth the effort.

i'd throw my lot in with the mask-er's (i doubt thats even a word) its a lot simpler than CGI-ing it.
... unless your going for something big like remaking a FIFA World Cup in lego or something
